Shattered Vows: Call Me Auntie Now novel Chapter 155

Standing by his bedroom window, Raymond watched as Quinn and Leo climbed into Dante's car.

Dante tossed the luggage into the trunk before sliding into the driver's seat.

The engine purred to life, tires crunching against the gravel driveway as the sleek vehicle swiftly rolled out of sight.

Raymond pulled his gaze away from the window and dialed his assistant, Caleb Jenkins.

"Is everything arranged as I requested?"

Caleb answered promptly, "Don't worry, Boss. Everything is taken care of."

"Good. To avoid suspicion, head back to Harbor Heights tonight. And remind our guy not to blow his cover."

"Understood."

Meanwhile, Quinn stared silently out the passenger window while Leo quietly played with a toy in the back seat. A stifling silence permeated the interior of the Maybach.

Dante cracked his window and glanced at the mother and son through the rearview mirror.

"Has everything been going smoothly since you moved to the new studio?" Dante asked, desperate to spark a conversation.

"It's fine," Quinn replied flatly.

"Do you need any help with the semi-finals?"

"No. Thank you."

Realizing Quinn was shutting him out, Dante shifted his focus to Leo.

"Hey buddy, how about Dad plays some games with you tonight?"

Since Dante had rarely ever bothered to spend time with him, Leo briefly tore his big, round eyes away from his toy to deliver a single, deadpan word.

"Oh."

"Grandpa and Grandma are going to be there too! They haven't seen you in so long, and they've missed you so much!"

"Mm." The little guy went right back to his toy.

Dante felt completely shut down. The mother and son were like two impenetrable glaciers, and his ego took a massive hit.

As the silence swallowed the car once again, he gave up and turned on some music to drown out the suffocating awkwardness.
