Vivienne Ambrose was in the middle of drying her soaking wet hair and face. Seeing Samuel Hayes staring at her with such sternness, she froze.
Even though Mrs. Hayes treated her quite well, Samuel was an entirely different story. Every time Vivienne was around him, she could practically feel his silent disapproval.
Her anxiety flared up instantly. "Mr. Hayes, I..."
Mrs. Hayes, always the master of composure, smiled gracefully at her husband. "Samuel, aren't the parting gifts for the banquet custom-ordered from the Ambrose family?"
"It's so thoughtful of Vivienne to keep it in mind. The design studio was so busy during the day that she could only drop them off for us tonight."
"The weather is so unpredictable this time of year. It started pouring right as she left, and since she didn't have an umbrella, I asked Dante to go catch up and bring her back inside."
Samuel's expression softened slightly upon seeing his wife's gentle smile, though he still looked somewhat skeptical.
"I see. Vivienne, next time there's a trivial matter like this, just have your staff handle it. There's no need for you to make a special trip out here late at night."
Samuel's implication was crystal clear. The Ambrose family had plenty of employees; delivering party favors was absolutely not something Vivienne needed to do herself.
Especially not late at night. Given the rumors already surrounding her and Dante, she should be keeping her distance, not inviting more gossip.
Vivienne's face drained of color at his words, and she bit her lower lip awkwardly.
Mrs. Hayes quickly stepped in to smooth things over.
"You're completely drenched, Vivienne. I've had the maids prepare a change of clothes for you. Go take a hot shower before you catch a cold."
"The rain is too heavy outside, and it's getting late. You should just stay the night."
With that, she instructed the staff to prepare a guest room.
Seeing that Dante made no move to object, Vivienne took the pajamas and headed toward the first-floor guest bathroom.
"Dante, you should go shower as well."
After dropping that final instruction, Samuel turned and retreated into his study.
Dante's soaked clothes were clinging uncomfortably to his skin, so he turned and walked upstairs without a word.
Mrs. Hayes had originally wanted to discuss something with her son, but she decided not to ruin his mood.
