Dante Hayes had just stepped out of his bedroom when he ran into Vivienne Ambrose emerging from the walk-in closet.
The moment their eyes met, Vivienne's heart skipped a violent beat. Forcing down her sudden panic, she quickly plastered on a sweet, obedient smile and walked up to him.
"Dante, I'm so sorry about last night. I was being unreasonable."
"I promised I wouldn't pressure you, and I meant it."
"Besides, I must have completely misunderstood what happened last night. Quinn initiated that kiss, didn't she?"
Vivienne stepped closer, reaching out with both hands to lightly tug at his sleeve, swaying it gently.
Dante looked down into her clear, pitiful eyes. For a moment, he couldn't bring himself to say anything harsh, so he just stood there with his lips pressed into a tight line.
When Quinn Yates walked out of her bedroom, this was exactly the scene she witnessed.
Vivienne was clinging to Dante's sleeve, pouting adorably, while Dante stared down at her, letting her whine and cling to him.
They always said women who knew how to act fragile had the easiest lives.
Unfortunately for her, she wouldn't be learning that trick in this lifetime.
"Excuse me."
Quinn threw the cold remark at them as she walked past.
Dante stiffened at the sight of her, then subtly pulled his arm out of Vivienne's grasp.
"I'm heading to the office. There are a few final details to wrap up for the IPO."
He directed the words at Vivienne, but his dark eyes were locked entirely on Quinn.
Quinn couldn't care less about what he was doing. She squeezed past the two of them and headed straight down the stairs.
"Stay and have some breakfast before you leave, Vivienne."
After delivering that soft instruction, Dante immediately followed Quinn down the stairs.
In the dining room downstairs, the staff were efficiently laying out breakfast. The faint, appetizing aroma of warm milk and fresh food filled the air.
"Did you sleep well last night?"
Quinn had barely poured herself a glass of water before Dante appeared right beside her.
His deep, dark eyes stared at her with a chilling intensity.
"Great, thanks for asking."
With that, she tilted her head back and casually drank her water.
