Quinn Yates instantly felt a wave of nausea wash over her.
Vivienne Ambrose kept her eyes downcast, pretending to stir her oatmeal with shy modesty, but from the corner of her eye, she was staring intensely at Quinn, refusing to miss a single micro-expression.
She wanted Quinn to misunderstand.
She wanted her to think that even though Quinn had initiated the seduction last night, Dante Hayes's heart still belonged entirely to Vivienne—so much so that he was frantic to comfort her, staying by her side in bed all night.
Quinn just stared back, thinking it was incredibly childish.
"Vivienne, aren't you bored of constantly trying to make me jealous over a man I couldn't care less about?" She took a slow, deliberate bite of her fried egg before her voice dropped into a cold warning.
"But let me be clear. Do not try pulling any stunts at work."
"What stunts?" Vivienne flared up defensively.
"My design was stolen the day before the preliminaries. Don't tell me you had nothing to do with it."
Vivienne's face darkened, acting as though she had been deeply insulted. "Don't speak nonsense. With my talent, why would I ever need to stoop to something so underhanded?"
"It better not be you. Otherwise, the police will eventually find a paper trail."
Quinn finished the last of her breakfast, gracefully wiped her mouth with a napkin, and shot Vivienne an icy glare.
"Are you done eating? If you are, clear out of the dining room. My son is coming down for breakfast soon."
Vivienne stared at her, utterly gobsmacked. "What is that supposed to mean? Are you kicking a guest out?"
"Oh, so you do know you're just a guest?" Quinn mocked her openly. "My son gets upset just looking at you. If I don't kick you out, what am I supposed to do? Keep you around until the holidays?"
"Quinn, as far as the public knows, you're still Mrs. Hayes. Aren't you afraid of humiliating Dante by being this rude?"
Quinn let out a scoff. "Since when does a homewrecker get to lecture me about dignity?"
Vivienne fired back, "You and Dante are already divorced! What gives you the right to call me a homewrecker?"
She pushed further, "I am an honored guest of Mrs. Hayes and Dante. I'm about to become the lady of this house, and you have absolutely no right to kick me out."
Quinn didn't even have to guess. Mrs. Hayes had obviously leaked the news of the divorce to Vivienne.
But since Vivienne hadn't brought it up in front of Dante, Mrs. Hayes must have also ordered her to keep her mouth shut around him for now.
"Until the day it goes public, you're not shaking the 'other woman' label."
Quinn sneered. "Also, consider this a warning: my father-in-law absolutely adores Leo. If he finds out you did anything to upset his grandson, do you have any idea what the consequences will be?"
