She then smiled at Mrs. Hayes. "Mrs. Hayes, didn't you promise to introduce me to some clients earlier? Why don't we do that right now?"
An event like this was the perfect opportunity.
Mrs. Hayes was speechless.
Brilliant! Tara thought. My best friend never works for free. That's exactly why we're besties!
Nearly two hours passed, and the banquet was drawing to a close. Though reluctant, Mrs. Hayes had already given her word, so she actually did end up introducing Quinn to a number of elite socialites.
Quinn exchanged contact info with all of them, only retreating to the lounge when she was fully satisfied.
Being in heels all night was exhausting as hell.
Whoever wanted to be a rich society wife in the future could go ahead and take the job!
She rubbed her aching heels, just getting ready to rest for a bit, when another uninvited guest walked in.
"Quinn."
Mr. Yates walked in, dressed sharply in a suit. For once, his face lacked its usual harshness and disgust. He actually had a slightly flattering smile.
"Do you need something?"
Quinn raised an eyebrow. Looking at Mr. Yates, she knew instantly he was up to no good.
"I saw you and Dante greeting guests together earlier. It seems your relationship has improved quite a bit," Mr. Yates said with a smile.
"Improved?" Quinn let out a mocking laugh. "Did you somehow miss how frantic he looked when he carried Vivienne out of here?"
"Quinn, to be honest, the new group Dante is taking public has excellent prospects. The Yates Group wants to discuss a collaboration with them..."
So that was his play.
Quinn laughed coldly in her head and interrupted him with a flat voice, "If you want to talk business, you've got the wrong person. Dante is in charge of the Hayes Group, not me."
"I was just thinking you could put in a good word with Dante and Mrs. Hayes." Mr. Yates glanced at her. "Wasn't Mrs. Hayes just parading you around the high-society circles? That shows she still acknowledges you as her daughter-in-law."
Quinn looked down and kept rubbing her feet. "Then you're giving me way too much credit. I don't have that kind of pull."
Mr. Yates's face darkened, and his tone dropped several degrees. "As a daughter of the Yates family, you won't even do this small favor? Do you have no conscience at all?"
Having settled Vivienne, Dante had already returned from the hospital. Hearing from the staff that Quinn was in the lounge, he came looking for her.
He stood right outside the door, listening to the entire conversation perfectly clearly.
