Dante's mind flashed back to the moment the champagne tower came crashing down, and how she had recklessly thrown herself in front of him. He remembered the horrifying gash on her back and the blood soaking through her dress.

His icy demeanor softened slightly, and his voice dropped to a gentler octave.

"You took that hit for me. I would never abandon you."

He gave her his solemn word. "I'll ensure you continue getting the absolute best care and the top specialists so you can make a full recovery."

"Thank you, Dante."

"It's just such a shame I won't be able to attend the IPO launch with you."
