Stuck in her hospital room, Vivienne was growing incredibly anxious waiting for Dante to visit.
She had sent him countless messages throughout the day, and he had only sent two token replies in return.
Both times, he simply claimed he was busy.
Tossing her phone back and forth, Vivienne finally lost her patience and dialed Belvedere Gardens.
Martha picked up the line.
"Hello, who is calling?"
"Martha, it's me, Vivienne!"
Vivienne always laid the charm on thick for anyone close to Dante. The very first time they met, she had gone out of her way to act overly familiar with the older woman, eager to cultivate the image of an approachable sweetheart.
Vivienne figured that winning over the staff would make her eventual reign as the lady of the house much smoother.
But her calculations failed miserably. Martha only offered surface-level politeness; behind closed doors, she was disgusted by Vivienne's blatant attempts to wreck Dante's marriage.
"Ms. Ambrose, what do you need?"
Vivienne probed carefully, "What has Dante been up to these past two days? Did he come home last night?"
"He did."
Hearing that Dante had slept at the villa, Vivienne let out a sigh of relief. "Oh, good. I was worried he was working so hard that he spent the night at the office."
In reality, she was terrified he had gone crawling back to Quinn and spent the night at Lunas Crest.
Just as she was silently celebrating, Martha's voice cut through the phone. "He came back, alright. But the boss was blackout drunk. Thank God Mr. Mercer and Mr. Preston were there to drag him home."
"I reckon he had a massive blowout with his wife. He came home completely wasted and just kept screaming her name."
Sensing Vivienne's stunned silence, Martha eagerly twisted the knife.
"The boss really is something else. He obviously cares deeply for his wife, but he always pretends to be so aloof."
"Ms. Ambrose, since you're such a good friend of his, you should tell him to stop picking fights with her."
The fake smile froze on Vivienne's face.
Dante had drowned himself in alcohol last night? Over Quinn?!
And did Martha just refer to her as just a 'friend'?
This realization made her chest tight with furious frustration.
