Quinn dropped her bag at the entryway and was about to head to the den to work when Raymond called out from behind her.
"Aren't you hungry?"
She paused. Having barely touched a bite at the restaurant, the question made her stomach twist in realization.
"Is there any food left?"
He nodded, his face unreadable.
"Saved you a plate in the kitchen."
She walked into the dining room and lifted the cover to find a plate piled high with all her favorite dishes.
Suddenly starving, she grabbed a bowl of rice and dug in.
Raymond sank onto the living room sofa, his dark eyes subtly drifting toward her.
She was practically inhaling her food, her cheeks puffing out with every bite like a ravenous little hamster.
He looked back down, thumbing through the news feed on his phone.
But an involuntary, deeply affectionate smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.
It was a fleeting, almost imperceptible softening.
The moment Quinn finished washing her plate, her phone rang. It was Tara.
"Quinn, did you meet with him?"
"Yeah, I saw him."
She dried her hands on a paper towel as she walked back out to the living room.
Seeing her approach, Raymond stood up and sauntered over to the floor-to-ceiling windows.
He leaned casually against the glass, pretending to be absorbed in his screen.
"How did it go? Did he cave?" Tara asked eagerly.
"I offered to play the doting wife tomorrow if he dropped the lawsuit. He totally shot me down. Didn't even blink."
She ran a hand through her long hair, letting out an exhausted sigh.
"You were right. He's a monster. He made it violently clear that he's dragging me to court no matter what."
"He's literally willing to torch his own company's IPO just to keep me trapped."
