"Got it," Dante replied in a low, gravelly voice.

He turned his attention back to Quinn and noticed the flat shoes on her feet. "Let's go, Mrs. Hayes. Put your heels back on. Our guests are waiting."

Quinn bent down, fully intending to swap back into her stilettos, but Raymond's large hand firmly clamped over hers, stopping her.

His sharply defined jawline tightened in the warm light. He turned his head toward Dante, his gaze blazing with open contempt.

"Are you entirely blind? Can't you see her feet are covered in bleeding blisters?"

Dante froze at the sudden reprimand. It hit him like a physical blow. He suddenly remembered that she had been walking a bit slowly behind him all evening.

But he had arrogantly assumed she was just dragging her feet because she didn't want to be there. He had no idea she was actually in physical pain.

Without giving Quinn a chance to protest, Raymond smoothly packed her designer heels away into the shoebox.

"You're tall enough as it is. There's zero reason to suffer in heels."

Watching Raymond take charge, a flicker of genuine gratitude warmed Quinn's chest.

It was a sad reality that a hired bodyguard paid more attention to her physical comfort than the man she had known since childhood.

Dante was absolutely livid. "You're vastly overstepping your boundaries for a bodyguard."

Raymond completely ignored the billionaire's boiling rage.

"As long as my client doesn't think I'm overstepping, your opinion is irrelevant."

Quinn stepped in with a cool, flat tone. "I'm listening to Ray, Dante. I'll wear the flats."

When a person was in pain, comfort was the only thing that mattered. There was absolutely no glory in pretending everything was fine while your feet bled out in expensive shoes.

Dante's jaw clenched so hard a muscle ticked in his cheek. He looked ready to violently erase Raymond from existence.

Quinn easily walked out of the room in her comfortable shoes. Dante instinctively reached out to wrap his arm around her waist, but she smoothly dodged his touch.

"I can walk on my own."

Left grabbing at empty air, Dante's expression turned incredibly dark.

Pretending she couldn't see his murderous mood, Quinn turned back to Raymond. "The banquet is probably going to run super late. You can head home first. I'll just grab a cab later."
