She stopped about five paces away from Dante's desk.
Looking at her son's grim, ruthless face, she felt a wave of helpless frustration.
"Dante, you haven't been back to the family estate in days."
"You don't answer my calls, and you ignore my texts. Are you still angry with me?"
Dante felt the question was entirely pointless. His expression remained ice-cold.
"I'm extremely busy. If you don't have anything important to say, leave."
Mrs. Hayes wasn't about to back down that easily. She took a seat in the chair across from his desk and began a desperate, earnest plea.
"Dante, I know you've been looking for Quinn recently. If she refuses to come back to you, then there is no reason for you to keep chasing her."
"I will find a way to talk to your father and your grandmother. I'll make them accept it."
Dante's hand paused over the document he was reviewing. He didn't look up, but the sheer, freezing aura rolling off him caused the temperature in the room to plummet.
"My situation with her is far from over. Stop interfering in my life."
Mrs. Hayes furrowed her brow. If Dante was saying things weren't over, it meant he still hadn't given up.
"What do you mean it's far from over? You are already divorced."
"I don't recognize that piece of paper, and neither does the law. Our marriage is still fully legally binding. There is no divorce."
Looking at his cold, unyielding face, Mrs. Hayes suddenly wondered if her son had completely lost his mind.
"Dante, you're being irrational! That woman is hellbent on leaving you. You can't force something that's already broken. What is the point of clinging to her like this?"
Dante's voice was like cracking ice. "Even though you are my mother, you do not have the right to pass judgment on my marriage."
"You're out of your mind, Dante. She has no background and no real value to this family. If she's gone, let her be gone."
"The Ambrose family is on the rise right now. What you need to do is solidify your relationship with Vivienne. Securing a marriage alliance with them is the only intelligent move!"
