Riverton was a coastal city, notoriously prone to violent summer storms and hurricanes.
Quinn had checked the weather forecast earlier. A Category 4 hurricane was scheduled to make landfall on the eastern seaboard shortly after midnight, and the outer bands were expected to slam into Riverton within a few hours.
Thankfully, Mrs. Hunt's elite circle had received their orders, and the remaining projects weren't as urgent. Quinn had stayed at Aura Studio to wrap up some minor tasks, but for safety reasons, she decided not to work too late. By nine o'clock, she packed her things and got ready to leave.
Pulling her car out of the studio's front gate into the pitch-black night, a thick wall of fog and water slammed against her windows. The rain hammered relentlessly against the roof in a deafening roar.
Quinn was a confident driver, so navigating home alone in a heavy storm didn't bother her.
But just a few hundred feet down the road, blinding headlights suddenly flashed directly into her eyes, forcing her to squint against the glare.
Once her vision adjusted, she realized what was blocking her path. It was a black Maybach.
Quinn's grip tightened around the steering wheel, a layer of absolute frost settling over her eyes.
It was Dante's car.
She had been in a great mood today and had absolutely no desire to see him.
A few seconds later, the Maybach's headlights cut out.
The driver's door swung open, and a sleek black umbrella snapped open in the driving rain.
Dante's tall, imposing figure stepped out into the storm.
He walked toward her car with slow, heavy, determined steps, completely unfazed by the torrential downpour.
Even with the umbrella, the sheer violence of the rain quickly soaked the shoulders of his tailored suit.
His usually arrogant, untouchable features were painted with a dark, brooding intensity in the dim light of the storm.
He stopped right outside her window, his knuckles rapping sharply against the glass.
Quinn sat in silence for two seconds before rolling down the window.
A blast of freezing rain and violent wind instantly ripped into the cabin.
Their eyes locked.
Dante stared intensely at her cold, impassive face. It had only been a few days since he last saw her, but to him, it felt like a lifetime.
An entire eternity had passed.
Quinn's gaze offered nothing but detached disdain. "Dante, you're blocking the road. Move your car."
The stretch of road leading away from Aura Studio was incredibly narrow, barely wide enough for two vehicles to pass.
By parking exactly where he was, Dante had effectively trapped her on the shoulder.
