The next day, the typhoon weakened, but the torrential rain continued under an oppressively gloomy sky.
Silas Vance drove for hours, heading straight for Fairweather.
Having visited during his previous investigation, Silas knew the route well and quickly located Zachariah Zeller's breakfast diner.
But when he arrived, his heart sank.
The diner's doors were locked tight, a 'For Rent' sign plastered across the front window. The place was completely deserted.
Silas furrowed his brow. Most people would have given up right then, but he had promised Dante Hayes he would get to the bottom of this.
Even if he had to leverage every single connection at his disposal, he was going to find Zachariah and figure out if the man had lied to him the first time.

Vivienne Ambrose hadn't seen Dante for days, and she was sitting on pins and needles.
Whenever she reached out, he was always cold and distant, claiming he was too busy with work to see her.
Too busy? Or was he out looking for Quinn Yates?
Her feminine intuition told her that while Dante was furious Quinn had taken the divorce certificate on her own, beneath that anger, he didn't actually want the divorce.
It seemed he still couldn't let Quinn go.
A suffocating sense of crisis wrapped around her heart. After much thought, she decided to show up at his office.
Dante had just returned from a board meeting. When he walked in and saw Vivienne sitting on the guest sofa, he raised an eyebrow.
"What are you doing here?"
"We haven't seen each other in days. I missed you."
"I told you, things are very busy at the company lately," Dante said, taking a seat at his desk with a grim expression.
"But it's good you're here. I actually had something to ask you."
Seeing his cold, serious demeanor, Vivienne felt a flicker of panic. "What is it?"
Dante toyed with a fountain pen, his dark eyes locking onto her.
"That time you asked me to procure those fabrics from Highcrest Textiles and connect you with that custom embroidery artisan—did you use them to sabotage Quinn?"
Vivienne froze, especially under his chilling glare.
She shook her head frantically. "No, Dante! I swear, I used the Highcrest silks and the artisan for my new vintage dress collection!"
"Did Quinn misunderstand something? I can go explain it to her."
Dante's gaze cut like a knife. "You better not be lying."
