The moment the officers exchanged that glance, Leon immediately caught on.

He originally thought this was a minor issue. He figured he could just throw some money around, pull his sister out, do a little PR magic to clean up her image, and wait for everyone to forget about it over time.

He hadn't expected they would demand a formal letter of forgiveness from Quinn just to let her go.

As a seasoned businessman, Leon knew exactly what was happening. Someone high up had clearly given orders. Even his personal intervention wasn't working, and he had no idea who was pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Walking out of the police station, his lawyer advised him.

"Mr. Ambrose, see if there's any way you can get Ms. Yates to settle. You can offer appropriate compensation. As long as she's willing to sign a letter of forgiveness, this will be easy to resolve."

Leon's expression remained dark. His sister had committed so many wrongs against Quinn. Why would she ever go soft on her now?

But the thought of his sister breaking down and crying uncontrollably in the station made his heart ache. He couldn't just abandon her.

After turning it over in his mind, he decided his best option was to visit Mr. Yates and explain the situation to him.

The Yates family was Quinn's maiden home, after all, and Mr. Yates was her biological father. She would have to listen to him, at least a little.

Every day after lunch, Leo would watch cartoons for a while.

Raymond sat with him, feeling thoroughly bored, when his phone rang.

It was his good friend, Luke Bennett.

"Hey, Ray-boy. I took care of that little favor you asked for!"

Raymond walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window and gave a low hum of acknowledgment. "Yeah."

"I gotta ask, Ray. What did that little girl do to piss you off so much that you wouldn't even let them post bail?"

Raymond glanced up toward the second floor, looking at the tightly shut door of the master bedroom.

His voice was deep. "Mind your own business. I'll buy you dinner sometime."

"Why do I get the feeling there's a story here?"

Luke could sense that something was off.
