Halfway through the meal, Raymond's phone rang.
He stood up, pausing to lower his voice and remind Quinn before stepping out.
"Be good. Go easy on the drinks."
With that, he carried his phone out of the private dining room, finding a relatively secluded corner.
His assistant, Caleb Jenkins, spoke through the receiver.
"Mr. Moretti, Dante has sent more people to Harbor Heights to dig into your past and track your current movements."
Raymond let out a soft hum of acknowledgment, his tone entirely unbothered.
"Let him dig. By the time he figures anything out, I'll be done with what I need to do."
"Boss, when am I coming back to Riverton? Honestly, I miss you!"
Raymond frowned, suddenly remembering that this was the very idiot who had made Quinn mistakenly think he was gay. He hung up before Caleb could keep rambling.
Caleb stared at his dead phone in silence.
Instead of rushing back to the room, Raymond walked to the front desk, pulling out his card to settle the bill early.
While waiting for the receptionist to process the payment, a figure hurried up behind him and clapped a heavy hand on his shoulder.
Raymond turned his head to see Luke Bennett standing there, his face painted with absolute shock.
"Damn, Ray, it really is you!"
"I saw you from down the hall and couldn't even believe my eyes. I thought I'd mistaken you for someone else!"
Luke leaned in, entirely too invested, his face practically bursting with curiosity as he fired off questions.
"Spill! Who was that woman you were holding hands with when you walked into the room earlier?"
"You've steered clear of romance for so long that I honestly thought you'd end up dying alone. But I saw the way you looked at her—your eyes were practically melting with affection!"
"Sir, your total comes to two thousand four hundred dollars," the receptionist chimed in.
Raymond nodded and handed over his card. "Run it."
Luke was still rattling off beside him.
"Ray, you sly bastard. You hid that well. Is she your girlfriend?"
"No," Raymond replied mildly.
"You guys had your fingers locked together, and you're telling me no?"
