"I won't allow anyone else to touch you! I won't allow it!"
Dante's furious, desperate roar echoed through the small courtyard, filled with paranoia, madness, and devastation.
Quinn's slender frame was shaken like a leaf in the wind, making her entirely dizzy.
"Dante, you're out of your mind!"
Quinn shoved him away again, rubbing her aching temples.
She was about to keep yelling at him when the elderly woman's voice suddenly drifted over.
"Dante, Quinn, lunch is ready! Come eat!"
Old Mrs. Hayes had appeared a short distance away. She was very adept at using her electric wheelchair now and didn't need someone hovering over her at all times.
The moment she appeared, both of them instantly froze.
The explosive tension between them was forcefully stuffed back down.
Dante unclenched his fists, burying the inferno in his eyes, leaving behind only a trace of desolation and bitter reluctance.
Quinn also managed to soothe the angry heaving of her chest. She raised a hand to smooth out her slightly wrinkled dress, the fury fading from her face as she forced a calm, indifferent expression.
Neither of them said another word. They averted their gazes, refusing to look at each other, and walked one after the other toward old Mrs. Hayes.
Dante walked in front. He reached out to hold the side of the wheelchair, instantly snapping back into the rational, filial grandson he had always been in front of her.
However, his jaw remained tightly clenched, and the aura around him was suffocatingly heavy.
Quinn trailed a half-step behind, reaching out to hold Leo's hand as the boy ran over.
The little guy seemed to sense the lingering hostility between the two. He simply gripped his mother's hand tightly, his dark eyes darting back and forth, but he wisely didn't ask a single question.
Sitting in her electric wheelchair, old Mrs. Hayes maintained her cheerful smile.
"You two vanished in the blink of an eye. I had to search everywhere for you."
