While waiting for Raymond to return, Quinn stood on the sidelines, casually chatting with a few of the other mothers.
To her absolute delight, she noticed that Leo was actually allowing the other children to approach him today.
A few minutes later, the little boy practically beamed as he quickly trotted over, holding the hand of a sweet, chubby-cheeked little girl.
Leo's eyes were sparkling. Stripped of his usual fearful isolation, he carried the pure, unadulterated joy of a normal child. Stopping right in front of Quinn, he looked up and announced in a clear, bright voice:
"Mom, this is my good friend, Chloe!"
Quinn stared at the scene, completely dumbstruck. When she heard Leo's words, her eyes widened in pure disbelief.
She had waited so, so long for a day like this.
In the past, he had been entirely trapped in his own world—refusing to speak, rejecting all social interaction, shutting out playmates, and completely unwilling to let kids his own age near him. Holding hands with another child like this was nothing short of a miracle.
When she had taken him to see a child psychologist and learned he was highly likely showing early signs of autism, she felt as though her entire sky had crashed down.
No one knew about the countless sleepless nights she had spent agonizing over whether her child would remain locked in his shell forever, terrified that his psychological barriers could never be broken...
But now, right in front of her eyes, her little boy had finally shattered that armor of isolation and made a friend of his very own.
A massive wave of shock, immense relief, and aching sorrow collided within her, instantly overwhelming her as hot tears slid down her cheeks.
Choking back a sob, she gently ruffled her son's hair. "That's wonderful, sweetheart. Mom is so happy you made a friend!"
A short distance away, Raymond hung up his call with Caleb and strode back toward the classroom.
Almost instantly, he noticed her tear-filled eyes and the wet tracks streaking her face.
His chest tightened in alarm. He took a long stride forward, opening his mouth to ask what was wrong, but before he could say a word, Quinn lost all control of her emotions and threw herself fiercely into his arms.
Her voice was violently trembling with sobs, yet it rang with pure, unfiltered euphoria.
"Raymond... our Leo made a friend!"
"Our Leo is finally making friends!"
Raymond instinctively wrapped his arms securely around her, the tight knot of panic in his chest instantly vanishing.
