The night was heavy, the streetlights outside Lunas Crest casting a dim, amber glow.

A black Bentley sat quietly parked under a tree, its engine long dead, the interior enveloped in absolute silence.

Raymond Moretti had already stepped out of the car. He leaned against the chassis, looking somewhat defeated, his fingers absently rolling an unlit cigarette.

His deep, oceanic eyes were fixed unblinkingly on the second-floor window.

For two whole hours.

As the night air grew chilled, he remained motionless.

In those two hours, countless thoughts had raced through his mind, yet it simultaneously felt as if he had been thinking of nothing at all.

Anxiety gnawed at him. Would she truly ignore him from now on? Would she actually leave him?

He didn't want to leave. It felt as though just being this close to her gave him a fragile sense of peace.

Although Quinn Yates had gone to bed long ago, she hadn't managed to fall asleep.

The events of the daytime board meeting played on a loop in her mind. That insurmountable barrier now wedged between them pressed heavily on her chest, keeping her thoughts chaotic and her heart restless.

Tossing and turning was agonizing. Feeling a bit thirsty, Quinn finally got up to head downstairs for a glass of water.

As she passed the window, it was as if some invisible tether tugged at her. She reached out, pulled the curtain aside just a fraction, and glanced down.

Through the hazy glow of the streetlights, she spotted the car parked outside the courtyard.

And she saw Raymond leaning against it, his head tilted back, gazing directly toward her window.

His tall, broad-shouldered silhouette looked profoundly lonely and desolate in the quiet night.

Quinn's heart gave a violent clench, and she instinctively shrank back.

She let the edge of the curtain fall back into place.

Retreating to the edge of her bed, she sat in a daze for a long moment.

Eventually, she threw a coat over her shoulders, tread lightly down the stairs, and opened the front door of the villa.

At the sound of the door, Raymond's gaze snapped up almost instantly.

Their eyes locked for two full seconds.

The crushing gloom that had accumulated in Raymond's eyes all day suddenly shattered into a brilliant spark of light.

He shoved the cigarette into his pocket, took several massive strides forward, and pulled her forcefully into his arms.

"Quinn."

"I'm sorry."

He held her impossibly tight, as if trying to fuse her into his very bones, his voice low and hoarse.
