Sitting in his car, Dante threw one last glance at the floor-to-ceiling windows of Lunas Crest before finally starting the engine.
The black Maybach drove off into the night in complete defeat.
Peace finally returned to Lunas Crest.
Raymond looked down at Quinn, the lethal hostility instantly fading from his demeanor.
"Are you okay?"
Quinn nodded, the suffocating ache in her chest mostly subsiding.
He noticed her wrist, where a harsh red mark remained from Dante's grip.
Raymond frowned. "Let's put some ointment on that."
"It's fine," Quinn replied. "It'll fade in a couple of days."
She had luminous, delicate skin; the slightest bump always left a mark.
Raymond blatantly ignored her refusal.
He walked straight to the first-aid kit and pulled out some cotton swabs and anti-inflammatory ointment.
The man's fingers gently grasped her wrist. The ointment felt incredibly cooling against her skin.
Yet his hands felt impossibly warm.
Quinn felt completely submerged, pulled back and forth between the icy ointment and his scorching touch.
For some reason, whenever she was alone with this man, the air seemed to ignite with a thick, suffocating tension.
Quinn, he doesn't even like women. Why are you getting so worked up over nothing?
She forcefully reminded herself in her head.
Just then, his deep voice broke the silence. "Why didn't you just tell him you're already divorced?"
"When we got our marriage certificates, you said you wanted to wait two months to go public. Was that because of him?"
Quinn lowered her eyes. The warm amber lighting fell across her thick lashes, casting faint, delicate shadows.
It was an incredibly captivating sight.
She had indeed promised Mrs. Hayes not to disrupt the Hayes conglomerate's IPO right now. Ultimately, it all circled back to Dante.
So, she nodded.
Raymond, still holding the cotton swab, paused his motions for a fraction of a second.
"Mabel, starting tomorrow, you, Yvonne, and Annie can all pack your bags and return to the main estate. I really don't need a massive staff waiting on me here."
Mabel was completely dumbfounded. "Ma'am, Mr. and Mrs. Hayes personally ordered us to serve you here. Please don't send us away."
Mabel didn't actually care where she worked; she was just terrified of facing Dante's wrath if she abandoned her post.
Quinn knew exactly what she was worried about, so she pulled out her phone and called Mrs. Hayes directly.
Truthfully, when Dante originally deployed Mabel and the others to Lunas Crest, Mrs. Hayes had considered it a massive waste of resources.
The maids were loyal veterans of the Hayes household. Since Quinn didn't want them, Mrs. Hayes was thrilled to save herself a few paychecks.
Furthermore, Dante and Quinn were divorced. When Dante eventually remarried, he would need experienced staff to manage his new household anyway.
It was best to bring Mabel and the others back to the main estate now, so they'd be available for the future.
So, she made the decision on the spot.
"Since Quinn doesn't need your services, you can all come back. I'll personally explain the situation to Dante."
Visibly relieved, Mabel and the others hurried back to their rooms to pack.
First thing the next morning, they were gone.
