She Became Exactly What They Wished For novel Chapter 13

Chapter 13

At night, Lawrence lay in bed, unable to sleep soundly.

He had never expected that, after Maryann was completely removed from his life, her image would haunt him like a spell, filling his mind and refusing to leave no matter what he did.

Half-awake and half-asleep, a soft body slipped into his arms.

Instinctively, he thought it was Maryann and reached out to pull the person closer.

However, when an unfamiliar, overly sweet perfume assaulted his senses, he immediately woke up. Turning his head, he saw Candice lying naked beside him, her eyes fixed intently on him, and a strong sense of repulsion surged within him.

“What are you doing here?”

Lawrence pushed her away without hesitation, his brows tightly furrowed.

“We were supposed to be husband and wife. Isn’t it normal for us to sleep together?” Candice looked at him innocently. “Larry, it’s been so many years since we’ve seen each other. I really missed you. Don’t you miss me at all?…”

As she spoke, she tried to throw herself into his arms again.

But Lawrence, almost by reflex, pushed her away forcefully, got out of bed, and said coldly and distantly, “I still have work to finish. Do as you please.”

“Larry

go!…” Candice immediately stepped forward, trying to grab his hand.

her, causing her to fall to the floor. “Ah! That hurts…”

elled up in her eyes, making her look pitiful and fragile.

Any man who saw her like this would feel a surge of sympathy.

But Lawrence didn’t spare her a glance and strode away with long steps.

The study was unlit, with only faint moonlight streaming in.

He held his phone, almost unconsciously opening his photo album and gazing at pictures of Maryann.

Her every expression, every glance, was so beautiful that he couldn’t look away.

Lawrence placed his phone face down on the desk, rubbing his aching eyes, trying to force himself to calm down and drive Maryann’s image from his mind.

He stayed like that until dawn gradually broke across the sky.

The morning light spilled over him.

He sat there the entire time, motionless.

A servant, unable to watch any longer, came in and spoke: “Mr. Frye, this was found while cleaning the storage room. It seems to belong to Mrs. Frye…”

Maryann’s?

Lawrence’s gaze refocused as he took the item the servant handed him.

It was a diary.

The handwriting was Maryann’s.

A flicker of emotion crossed Lawrence’s eyes as he slowly opened to the first page.
