She Became His World by Turning Me Into the Villain novel Chapter 9

**Chapter 9**

I found myself at the hospital once more, sitting beside my mother, the familiar sterile scent of antiseptic filling the air. It was a routine I had grown accustomed to, a backdrop to my life where the hum of machines and the soft whispers of nurses were as comforting as they were unsettling. As I absentmindedly scrolled through my phone, an unfamiliar number flashed on the screen. Curiosity piqued, I answered, though I was prepared for yet another telemarketer.

“Hello, Nora?” The voice on the other end was confident, even enthusiastic. “I’ve been following your story. I’ve seen your paintings, and I genuinely believe you have a remarkable talent. I want to help you get into a professional art program so you can continue your studies.”

I was taken aback, skepticism flooding my mind. “Thanks, but I’m not interested,” I said curtly, dismissing what felt like just another scam. With a quick tap, I hung up, convinced it was nothing more than a fleeting nuisance.

Days passed, and the world outside my bubble began to shift. I soon discovered that the call had been genuine; my life had unwittingly become a trending topic. Someone had taken my tumultuous history with Ethan and splashed it across the internet, and in the process, my art had gone viral, catching the eye of an arts foundation.

I rarely indulged in the news or the latest trends, so I was blissfully unaware of the storm brewing around me. It wasn’t until a friend casually inquired about Ethan that the reality hit me like a freight train. My life had transformed into a spectacle, dissected by strangers who knew nothing of the truth.

The day I had confronted Summer at the venue had been a turning point. In that chaotic moment, someone had decided to livestream the entire encounter, and the fallout was swift and brutal.

In the digital age, it’s alarmingly easy to unearth someone’s personal history, particularly when that person is a young partner at a publicly traded company, their name already a point of interest for many. It didn’t take long for the internet detectives to connect the dots, revealing Summer as the so-called “proud home-wrecker” who had once boasted in comments about her conquest over someone else’s relationship.

The backlash was relentless. Under the weight of public outrage, Summer deleted her social media accounts, resigned from her job, and became a recluse, too terrified to step outside her front door. But the repercussions didn’t stop there. She was bombarded with threats, her personal address leaked, and the harassment became a constant shadow in her life.

What surprised me most was Ethan’s silence. The man who had once hung on Summer’s every word now seemed utterly indifferent to her plight. Once the truth spilled into the public domain, he became the primary target of the outrage, a partner at a large public firm now facing the consequences of his actions.

Instead of defending himself or clarifying the situation, Ethan released a hasty statement, declaring that the engagement was off. He painted himself as a victim, a man wronged, desperately trying to extricate himself from the mess he had helped create.

Yet, despite the chaos, he continued to reach out to me.
