Isabella returned to the master bedroom and leaned against the headboard. Her gaze fixed on nothing.

“I’ve already died once…” Dominic’s words echoed in her mind like a waking nightmare.

She saw him again on the operating table, his body cold, his heart silent. Despair surged through her chest. If a miracle had not happened, he would have truly been dead.

Her eyes slowly emptied, turning dull and hollow. An intense chill followed, seeping into her bones. She picked up her phone, removed Alexander from the blacklist, and dialed his number without a sound.

The call connected almost at once.

“You finally called me, Bella!” Alexander’s voice brimmed with delight.

Isabella spoke without emotion. “Tell me exactly what happened the day my husband had the accident.”

Alexander’s breath caught, and his heart seemed to stop. Fear flickered across his face.

‘Did she find out? No. If she had discovered the truth, that terrifying side of her would not make a call like this. She would have sent someone straight to deal with me.‘

With that thought, Alexander hurried to speak. “I really don’t know much, Bella. I was behind him that day and wanted to explain things, but he walked too fast. By the time I caught up, he had already disappeared into the crowd.

“Later, I heard people screaming. There were too many people, and I got blocked. I couldn’t see clearly.

“Then Dominic rushed over and punched me. He looked fine, so I thought a car had just brushed past him. I truly didn’t know he was hurt that badly. You have to believe me, Bella. I swear everything I said is true.”

His voice carried deep grievance.

Isabella asked calmly, “Then why was my husband so certain that you pushed him?”

“How would I know?” Alexander replied, sounding wronged. “Maybe he just doesn’t like me. But I didn’t do anything.”

Isabella fell silent for a long while. Her next words came out low and inscrutable. “I will find out the truth. If you really did anything to harm my husband, this is your last chance to admit it.”

‘If it truly was you, I will at least grant you a quick death if you confess now,‘ she added inwardly.

Alexander had no intention of admitting anything. He had seen Isabella’s ruthless side and knew better. He said with indignation, “Bella, if someone really dared to scheme against Dominic behind the scenes, you wouldn’t even need to act. I would be the first to go after them.”

Isabella offered no response and ended the call.

She tapped the phone screen lightly. Inside her mind, two voices argued.

One voice insisted that Dominic had always been right and deserved her unconditional trust. If he said Alexander was responsible, then she should deal with Alexander at once. Only then would Dominic forgive her.
