“Dinner’s ready.” Dominic brought the dishes out, said only that to the two women on the sofa, then went to call Lilith.

His footsteps were light. He stopped behind the girl and saw her gripping a mechanical pencil, clicking it over and over.

When he noticed her exercise book, his face darkened, and his mood sank with it.

The girl was writing an essay titled “My Dadd“.

Dinner was already on the table, yet Lilith had not even finished the title.

“Lilith Fleming.” Dominic clenched his teeth and forced out each word.

She put on a nervous smile. “Daddy… why are you here?”

Dominic sneered and pointed at her exercise book. “Don’t call me Daddy when you can’t even finish the title.”

Lilith glanced down, quickly added the missing stroke, then hugged Dominic’s arm and shook it. “See? It says Daddy now.”

Dominic sighed helplessly. “Come out and eat. After dinner, finish your homework. And tonight, you’re not allowed to touch your phone. Not even for one minute. Do you hear me?”

Her face immediately turned sour. “What?”

She followed him out, dragging her feet. She looked like someone owed her money.

The girl glanced at Dominic, then rushed over, threw herself into Katherine’s arms, and nodded vigorously. “Yes. Daddy just made me eat super bitter grapefruit.”

Isabella could not help laughing as well. The sight of her adorable daughter lifted her spirits at once.

She only hated herself more. With such a good husband and such a good daughter, how had she managed to ruin everything so thoroughly?

Before long, all four of them sat at the dining table.

Isabella spoke first. “Honey, I’m sleeping here tonight.”

Isabella steadied herself, though her thoughts raced. How could she not rush? July 1st was coming up Lilith’s school holiday would start soon, and July 15th was the court date for their divorce.

“You have something going on during the break?” Katherine asked at once.

Dominic nodded and answered honestly, “I start work on Wednesday.”
