Chapter 126
Earlier, Dominic had noticed Tom from a distance. After all, no one wore a cotton jacket in June, yet nobody else seemed to find it strange. No one even glanced at him.
Tom watched a scantily dressed woman walk into a small residential compound in the alley. Only then did he lower his gaze and say painfully, “She… is my wife. No. To be precise, she’s my ex–wife.”
Dominic raised an eyebrow. He had noticed the woman’s heavy makeup as well. It seemed Tom’s story would be an interesting
one.
“Let’s go,” Dominic said. “We’ll talk at my place.”
Lilith was still in the car, and he had no intention of lingering.
Tom looked once more toward the alley where his ex–wife had disappeared, then reluctantly withdrew his gaze. He murmured, ” Alright.”
Dominic walked to the car, opened the front passenger door, and ushered Tom inside before driving home.
“Daddy, what were you doing just now?” the girl asked with curiosity.
She had not seen Tom and found it strange that her father had walked away and then returned.
Dominic bent his arm and struck a strongman pose. “Daddy was exercising!”
Lilith’s eyes sparkled as she clapped excitedly. “Wow! Daddy’s amazing! If bad guys bully Lily, Daddy can beat them up!”
“Haha, of course! No bad guy would dare bully my little girl!”
Dominic laughed, but in that instant his eyes turned frighteningly cold. If anyone dared to hurt her, there would be only one outcome. He would eradicate their entire family.
Tom, who sat in the passenger seat, noticed the change and could not hide the envy on his face.
A short while later, they arrived home.
After Lilith settled down to do her homework, Dominic and Tom stepped out onto the balcony.
“Tell me your story,” Dominic said.
Tom leaned against the railing, his eyes filled with nostalgia.
After a long silence, he finally spoke in a low voice. “My wife’s name is Leona Davis. We were classmates in high school. During sophomore year, she sat at my desk.
“She wasn’t like that back then. She was lively, cute, and beautiful. I don’t know what kind of luck I had, but we talked every day, and our feelings slowly grew.”
As he recounted, a faint smile touched the corner of Tom’s mouth. The memories brought him genuine happiness.
“Later, we studied together, played together, and did almost everything together. After the SATs, her scores were higher than mine, but she still chose to attend the same university. On the first day of school, I confessed to her. She cried tears of joy and nodded without hesitation.
“During those four years of college, we were inseparable. At the time, I truly believed nothing could ever pull us apart. We were the happiest couple in the world, and she felt the same.
“After graduation, we got married naturally. I started working…”
At that point, Tom’s voice sank again.

Dominic listened, his brow gradually furrowing.
After marriage, Tom met many new people through work. Luck seemed to favor him. He and a group of friends bought lottery tickets together and unexpectedly won first prize.
Tom received more than 100,000 dollars. He planned to go straight home and share the good news with his wife. His friends stopped him, insisting that a lottery win deserved a proper celebration.
