“Alright, I’ll go call Lily.” Isabella’s mood lifted noticeably as she said that to Dominic.
She truly had the resilience of a cockroach, impossible to crush. Persistent. Stubborn.
Even with Dominic’s stance already made clear, she still refused to give up.
After some time, Isabella emerged with the girl in her arms. The child’s eyes were still red as she looked at Dominic and called out softly, “Daddy.”
“Come eat. Daddy made your favorite barbecue ribs.” Dominic filled a bowl of cereal for Lilith and smiled as he handed it to her.
He knew his daughter had just cried, and he knew she would cry again in the future. This was something he could not shield her
from.
Sooner or later, it would happen. When she grew up, accepting it might become even harder.
Thus, painful as it was, he still had to take this step toward divorce. His love for his daughter, however, would not diminish in the slightest.
No. It was stronger than before. After all, he once loved two people. Now, he loved only one.
“Mmm.” Lilith responded softly. She climbed onto the chair and ate in small, careful bites.
Seeing the girl’s fragile state, Jessica did not continue arguing with Isabella.
Under a strange, heavy silence, the four of them finished the meal.
Later that night…
“You should leave,” Dominic told Isabella.
This time, no Katherine stood by to drag her away. No matter what anyone said, Isabella refused to budge. “I’m not leaving!”
Jessica was still here. Isabella had to stay alert.
Dominic frowned. “Stop making a scene. Why are you staying here?”
“She can stay, so why can’t I?” Isabella pointed at Jessica, her voice trembling. “In your heart, is this woman more important than me?”
Dominic shook his head. “That kind of comparison has no meaning.”
“Exactly!” Jessica added with a gleeful tone. “Just go home already, ex–wife!”
“I’m not leaving!” Isabella’s eyes burned red.
She shot Dominic a stubborn look, then turned abruptly and ran into Lilith’s room. “I’m sleeping with Lily!”
As she turned away, several tears slipped free and fell through the air.
Dominic stared at the girl’s room for a few seconds before heading to the dining area to clear the dishes.
Jessica snorted. “Your ex–wife is really shameless.”
Dominic replied, “You are not much better. The pot should not call the kettle black.”
He felt deeply helpless. One after another, none of them showed any shame. In that regard, Autumn had actually been a bit
better.
After washing up, Dominic locked his bedroom door and lay down on the bed.
