Isabella released a long breath, her tension finally easing. She turned to Dominic and said, “Honey, let’s go. Let’s go home.”

“We’re already divorced,” Dominic replied.

Isabella ignored him. “Honey, I didn’t drive. Give me a ride.”

The court ruling had taken effect immediately. There was no cooling–off period.

Isabella’s eyes quivered. She clutched Dominic’s arm, her voice thick with sobs and pleading. “Honey… give me a ride, okay?”

James looked away, a dull ache tightening his chest.

Dominic remained silent for a few seconds, then turned and walked toward the courthouse exit. Isabella hurried after him.

“What else do you want to do?” James shot her a cold glance. “Do you want to make a move on Dominic?”

James let out a cold laugh. “Then go ahead. When Isabella comes to you in desperation later, I won’t stop her anymore.”

Yvonne fell silent, her expression stiff with embarrassment.

A flicker of fear and resentment crossed her eyes.

Memories of the past surfaced. She thought of Isabella on the brink of madness, and the lingering dread still crept through her.

Dominic got into the car, and Isabella slipped quickly into the passenger seat.

He did not start the engine right away. He sighed, an indefinable sadness clouding his eyes. “Isabella, it’s come to this at last. We’re both still young, and the road ahead is long. Let the past drift away with the wind.”

What Isabella had done had once nearly cost him his life, something he could never forgive. That was why he had chosen divorce without hesitation. Even so, he would not seek revenge.

Going their separate ways, living well, and growing farther apart was the best ending.

Isabella did not answer him directly.

“Honey, you haven’t called me Bella in so long. I don’t want to hear you call me by my full name.” Her voice sounded hollow and

weary.

Dominic said nothing.
