Chapter 208
Elijah’s interruption barely registered with the people inside the apartment.
Well, it registered a little.
For one thing, the little psycho had just shown off her power in front of an audience, and the rush went straight to her head.
She turned to Autumn and Isabella, chin tipped so high it might as well have been pointing at the ceiling, and let out a smug snort. “Go eat!”
Autumn gave her an indifferent glance, then turned and walked toward the dining room.
Isabella frowned. “What are you showing off for?”
With that, she stepped outside, slipped her arm through Dominic’s, and asked softly, “Did Elijah come because of Mary and Alex?”
Dominic pulled his arm free, lit a cigarette, and shot her a sideways look. “You really grab every chance to cling to me, don’t you? Back then, all it took was one call from your precious sworn brother, and you tossed me aside and ran to him without a second thought.”
Isabella stiffened. After a long pause, she spoke quietly. “Honey, can we not talk about this?”
Back then, she had never imagined she might lose him one day.
Dominic snorted and stepped forward, looking down at Elijah and the others as they filed out of the building below. His gaze grew distant, calm as still water, as if he were lost in thought.
Isabella exhaled softly and clung to him again, pressing close. “Actually, you should have let me handle it.”
Neither of them had said a word about Mary and Alexander’s deaths, but Isabella understood in her heart.
She did not know what methods Dominic had used, yet she was certain he was behind it.
Along with the shock came regret and unease.
She should have acted on her own.
Smoke drifted upward as Dominic said evenly, “This is my business. It has nothing to do with you.”
“How can it have nothing to do with me?” Isabella shot back, her emotions flaring. “Honey! I would do anything for you. Your hands shouldn’t be stained by filthy things like this!”
Dominic smiled faintly. “Trash is filthy. I’m just taking out the trash.”
He flicked the cigarette butt away, crushed it under his foot, and turned to head inside.
Isabella bit her lip and followed him back in.
In the dining room, Jessica looked at Isabella and asked, “What were you whispering with Dominic about outside?”
“None of your damn business,” Isabella snapped.
“Hmph!” Jessica snorted and turned away, then shifted her gaze to Dominic and instantly softened her expression.
With a carefully restrained smile, she said, “Dominic, that man was nothing. You didn’t need to put in much effort at all, even with my help.”
She said it lightly, but her face all but begged for praise.
Dominic caught the hint and smiled, giving her a thumbs–up. “Even small matters show how capable you are, Jessica. You did

well this time. Otherwise, I really might have been in trouble.”
Jessica beamed, her grin stretching from ear to ear, her eyes curving into happy crescents.
Autumn suddenly spoke. “Eat your food. With Dominic’s abilities, whether you were here or not, he wouldn’t have been in any danger.”
She kept her thoughts to herself. She had been there too. How could Dominic possibly be in danger?
