Autumn had not actually planned to stay, but the look on Jessica’s face unsettled her. Hence, she asked, “Why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost? What’s that supposed to mean?”

Jessica snorted. “Autumn, I don’t think there’s a place for you in this house anymore.”

Autumn blinked. “Huh?”

“Huh my foot!” Jessica sneered. “There are three guest rooms. One’s mine. One’s taken by the ex–wife and Lily. The last one’s already taken by the elder sister. You still think there’s room for you?”

‘Elder sister?‘ Autumn froze. She suddenly remembered the woman from that night, her eyes widening. ‘How long has it been? The house is already full?‘

She glanced quietly at Dominic. The awkward look on his face made him slightly embarrassed, and he gave a brief explanation about Katherine and Lilith. At last, it clicked.

Autumn murmured, “Something still feels off…”

Dominic quickly stepped aside. “It’s still early. Come in and sit for a while.”

Autumn nodded. She had said she would stay for a meal, but they had already eaten. It was only an excuse to spend a little more time with Dominic. Even so, she could not help finding Jessica irritating.

That evening, someone knocked at the door.

Before it opened, Lilith’s excited chatter drifted through the air.

Dominic opened the door and froze. He pointed at the small, dirt–covered child in front of him. “Who’s this?”

The girl stopped short, her voice shaking. “Dad, it’s me, Lily!”

Dominic stared at her. Her face was black with mud, her features smeared, and she clutched a huge bag of soil. “Lily, did you crawl through a sewer today?”

“Hmph!” The girl pouted, clearly offended.

Isabella and Katherine came in behind her, arms full of snacks.

“We took her to the amusement park for a while, then to the park,” Katherine said. “She’s exhausted.”

Dominic nodded, then said sternly to Lilith, “Go take a bath right now.”

Isabella washed her hands and dropped onto the sofa with a smile. She noticed Autumn but pretended she was not there. ” Sweetheart, she has something important to do first!”

Dominic ignored her and asked Lilith, “What important thing?”

“Hehe!” Lilith grinned. Despite the dirt on her face, her teeth gleamed bright white. She dug into her pocket and held something out proudly. “Dad, look!”

“What’s that?”

“Strawberry seeds!” With that, Lilith grabbed the bag of soil and ran happily into the room. She gathered four or five llowerpols and carried them out to the balcony.

Jessica followed, curious. “Lily, are you planting strawberries?”

“Yes, Jessica!”

The girl always stressed Jessica’s name whenever she spoke to her.
