Jessica flew into a rage at once. “Lily, are you a broken record?”
The girl looked at her innocently. Her expression was blank and adorably sincere. “What’s wrong?”
Jessica was seething. She pointed at the pots and snapped, “These aren’t strawberry seeds at all!”
“Huh?” Lilith parted her lips slightly and stared at the pots in confusion.
Jessica grinned wickedly. “I’ll tell you the truth. What you planted isn’t strawberries at all. It’s parsley.”
The small shovel slipped from Lilith’s hand and hit the floor. Just like her father, she could not stand parsley.
Jessica pressed her advantage. “When it grows, the whole room will stink of parsley. You’ll have to eat it all. Hahaha!”
At that moment, the girl’s fragile heart took a crushing blow. Her mouth puckered into a deep pout.
Jessica’s smile turned downright devilish. “And the smell will cling to you. Washing won’t help. Open your eyes, parsley. Fall asleep, and you’ll dream of parsley…”
Lilith finally broke down. She burst into tears, ran into the living room, spotted Dominic, and wailed, “Daddy, Jessica’s bullying me. Go hit her. Wah…”
Dominic looked up just in time to see Jessica walking over with an evil smile, her small teeth glinting under the light.
Autumn frowned. “Jessica, do you have no decency at all? You’re always bullying Lily.”
Jessica’s smile vanished. She snorted coldly. “Dominic and his ex–wife don’t say anything. Who do you think you are? A busybody?”
Autumn’s expression darkened, and a dangerous glint flashed in her eyes.
Dominic felt a headache coming on. “Alright, that’s enough. Enough. I’ll go cook.”
He then led the girl to the bathroom and helped her wash up.
In the living room, the four women each found a place to sit. No one spoke, and no one disturbed the others.
A subtle balance seemed to have formed.
Only Jessica plotted in silence. With so many people around, she thought she needed to get rid of a few.
That night, Autumn did not stay. The other women let out a quiet sigh of relief.
The house already felt cramped. If Autumn had slipped into the master bedroom, it would have spelled disaster.
The next morning, Dominic arrived at the office early.
Jewel arrived even earlier.
Inside her office, she pulled out a share transfer agreement and pushed it toward him. “Take a look. Sign it it everything seems
fine.”
She looked exhausted, her complexion dull. She rarely wore makeup, but that day she had applied a light layer to hide the dark circles under her eyes.
She clearly had not slept well, and deep fatigue weighed on her voice.
Dominic accepted the agreement, surprised. “You’re transferring it to me already? Aren’t you afraid I might change my mind?”
