Dominic sat in the car with a calm expression. The check from earlier carried real weight.
Jessica’s mother was likely a formidable socialite. She seemed to know everything and had her butler hand Dominic a check
with an astronomical figure on it.
The message was clear. To her, this had been nothing more than a transaction.
Jessica saw through it at once. That was why she stopped it without hesitation. She refused to let anything tainted intrude on her relationship with Dominic, and her mother’s attitude infuriated her.
At some point, the car had already come to a stop. The driver spoke respectfully from the front. “Mr. Fleming, we’ve arrived.”
Dominic came back to himself. “Okay. Thank you.”
After getting out, he noticed the time. It was already past 2:00 a.m.
He smoked a cigarette downstairs before heading home.
Isabella had not gone to bed. When she saw him enter, she walked over. “Honey, why are you back so late?”
Dominic asked, “Where’s Lily?”
“She went to bed a long time ago,” Isabella replied. Her delicate nose wrinkled as she studied him with suspicion. “You smell
different.”
Dominic changed his shoes and answered coldly, “Stay away from me.”
Isabella ignored him and leaned closer, sniffing him carefully. Her expression changed. She pulled a long strand of hair from his clothes, her voice trembling. “Honey, you smell like a woman. And there’s a woman’s hair. What were you doing out tonight?”
Dominic replied evenly, “I don’t think that’s any of your business.”
Isabella’s face went pale. The awful suspicion made her knees feel weak. Tears streamed down her face. “Honey, could it be that you were with another woman?”
A cup crashed to the floor.
Both of them turned instinctively. Katherine stood a short distance away in cartoon pajamas, staring at them in a daze.
Once she realized they were looking at her, Katherine hurriedly squatted down to pick up the broken glass.
Dominic rushed over. “Don’t use your hands.”
Dominic frowned and shouted, “Where are you going?”
“I’m going to find Jessica.” Her voice was icy, edged with something close to madness. “She humiliated me. I’m going to tear her apart!”
Dominic was stunned. “Isabella, are you crazy?”
Isabella clenched her teeth and continued toward the door without a word.
Seeing this, Dominic paused for a moment, then sneered. “Fine, go ahead, At worst, Lily can call someone else Mom later.”
The effect was immediate. Isabella stopped in her tracks.
After several seconds, she collapsed to the floor and wailed, “Honey, why are you doing this to me? Why?”
Dominic was at a loss for words. “What am I doing?”
They were already divorced. Even if he did see someone else, it had nothing to do with her.
Isabella cried for a long time before finally looking up at him. The light had completely vanished from her eyes. She whispered, ‘ Honey, I’ve finally lost you.”
