“What nonsense are you talking about! She’s my daughter’s aunt. I called her because I wanted her to help take care of my daughter,” Dominic explained in a rush.
His heart still beat a little too fast, and his mind filled against his will with flashes of obscene images.
“Oohhh!” Wendy said with clear sarcasm. “Someone sounds very guilty. Is it because you lack confidence?”
Dominic’s face flushed. He waved his hands at once. “Hey, hey. Can we not talk about this?”
Wendy laughed softly to herself.
When she did not keep pressing the issue, Dominic finally let out a breath of relief.
That peace lasted only a few minutes. Soon, she started chattering again.
Dominic remained patient, smiling as he chatted along with her.
After more than an hour on the highway, they turned onto a national road.
All at once, Wendy clutched her head. “Hey, what’s going on? Why do I feel dizzy? I feel really uncomfortable.”
Dominic’s heart sank. He pulled over at once.
Her condition worsened. Her body began to sway.
This could not be an illness. Dominic quickly reached out and removed the strand of hair wrapped around her finger.
A few seconds later, her expression brightened. “Hey, I don’t feel as dizzy as before. I feel like I’m slowly getting better.”
Then realization struck. She had returned to her soul state. Her shoulders drooped. “Alright. I’m dead again.”
Dominic watched her and fell into thought.
Almost three hours had passed since he handed her the hair. It seemed he could not allow a soul to remain manifested for long. More precisely, the soul itself could not endure it.
He had once wondered whether an unfulfilled obsession could allow a soul to exist like this indefinitely, never fading, just like a normal person. It would have been a kind of alternative resurrection.
Now, that idea proved unrealistic. His ability had limits, and this loophole could not be abused.
Wendy read his expression and guessed his thoughts. She chuckled. “Relax, Mr. Fleming. I’m fine. I’m already dead. It souls could stay manifested long–term, the world would fall into chaos, wouldn’t it?”
Her tone stayed playful and lighthearted.
Dominic smiled, and his earlier gloom faded away. “You’re right. I was overthinking it. Let’s go.”
With that, he started driving again.
This time, Wendy remained in her soul state for the entire ride. Dominic guessed that once she recovered further, she should be able to manifest again.
Before long, following Wendy’s directions, the car turned onto a rural dirt road.
They passed rows of houses and stopped in front of a two–story building.

Wendy brimmed with excitement and patted Dominic’s arm. “Look, look. My grandma. My grandma.”
At the entrance, a thin elderly woman sat on a rattan chair, basking in the sun.
“She doesn’t know about you yet, does she?” Dominic asked.
“Probably not.” Wendy hesitated before speaking again. “Grandma is almost 90, and her health isn’t good. My parents probably
didn’t tell her.”
Dominic nodded and took out another strand of hair, handing it to her. “If you feel uncomfortable, throw it away immediately.”
