Wendy thought for a moment, then said, “Let’s go to Love Me Blue Cheese. I haven’t eaten there in a long time, and I won’t be able to eat it again in the future.”
Dominic paused, cleared his throat lightly, and replied, “Then let’s go somewhere else. I know a local restaurant that’s pretty good.”
“That works too,” Wendy said.
Dominic drove toward a local restaurant he had visited before with Autumn.
From the passenger seat, Wendy quietly studied him. A faint blush rose to her face, then quickly faded. She reached out and carefully wrapped a strand of his hair around her pinky.
Her fingers were nimble. She tied the strand snugly and even shaped it into a small bow.
When she finished, she lifted her hand to admire her work and said with satisfaction, “All done.”
Wendy had fair skin and delicate, attractive features. With a white nurse’s cap perched on her head, her petite figure looked especially dainty. She was, by any standard, quite pretty. At that moment, her complexion was rosy, no different from that of an ordinary girl.
Dominic glanced at her hand. “It looks pretty nice.”
Wendy laughed. “When I was alive, I never wore a ring from a boy. I didn’t expect to wear one after dying. Does this count as making up for a regret?”
Dominic chuckled. “Probably not. I’m not a boy anymore.”
What he meant was that he was already older.
Wendy seemed to misunderstand. Her cheeks flushed, and her expression turned shy and bashful.
More than ten minutes later, Dominic parked the car. After he stepped out, he noticed Wendy was still fiddling with something. “Wendy, we’re here,” he said. “You can open the door yourself.”
“I know,” she replied.
Once outside, she pointed at her face. “I found a mask, so I won’t cause you any trouble.”
Warmth spread through Dominic’s chest. He smiled. “It’s really fine.”
