Chapter 281
Adam’s father felt his scalp go numb as well.
Dominic walked over and stopped in front of the boy. He stared at him in silence.
Adam shuddered and asked in terror, “W–What are you trying to do?”
Dominic chuckled softly. “So you’re not stupid. You can feel fear after all. Then why didn’t you know fear when you hurt someone?”
He patted Adam on the shoulder and went on, “Alright. That’s enough. Be a good person in your next life.”
Adam shook violently.
His father burned with rage but did not dare say a word.
After a long pause, Dominic frowned. “Why are you still standing here? Why haven’t you gotten lost? Are you waiting for dinner?
Adam’s parents exchanged a glance, then lifted the boy between them and left without a word.
They did not know that an invisible young woman followed them in silence.
After the family left, Caleb remained quiet for a long time before finally saying, “Thank you.”
Eunice did not respond. She squatted on the floor and carefully pieced together the shattered photo frame.
At the sight, Dominic felt a sharp ache in his chest and said softly, “Sir, ma’am, they’ll get what’s coming to them. Maybe even tonight.”
Before coming over, the two of them had already discussed the plan.
Dominic had asked Wendy whether she wanted to see her parents one last time. After long consideration, she refused, and he respected her decision.
Caleb’s eyes flickered at Dominic’s words. He hesitated, then said, “You’re going to…”
Dominic shook his head. “Don’t ask, sir. You know nothing, and I know nothing.”
Caleb looked pensive and nodded.
“I have things to take care of,” Dominic said. “I won’t disturb you any longer.”
Grief filled the house. Dominic could not find words of comfort, and he had no right to tell them to move on.
Caleb nodded and did not try to stop him.
After Dominic left, his heart felt heavy. Even after witnessing countless partings of life and death, his emotions still wavered,
He had died once himself. He should have seen everything clearly by now, but reality refused to be that simple. Perhaps this was
human nature.
Even though he saw himself as nothing more than a blade of weed, he still could not bear the suffering of the world.
After leaving the residential complex, Dominic did not head straight home. He went to a cyber cafe instead and handed his ID to the girl at the front desk. “Overnight session, please.”
When she saw him, she froze for a moment. Color rushed to her cheeks as she said, “It’s 10 dollars for overnight.”
