Chapter 280
Caleb’s eyes were bloodshot, and the butcher knife in his hand flashed as it swung wildly, a terrifying sight. “Let go of me! Let go of me!”
Dominic remained calm. He seized Caleb’s arm and whispered, “Sir, I’m Wendy’s good friend. Listen to me. Put the knife down.
Now.”
At the sound of his daughter’s name, a trace of clarity returned to Caleb. He gasped for air for a long moment, and the tension drained from his body.
Dominic seized the chance and took the knife from his hand.
At the same time, Adam and his parents released long breaths of relief.
Only moments earlier, terror had rooted them in place.
Now that Caleb was unarmed, Adam’s mother shrieked, “Crazy! You’re crazy! How dare you hold a knife and try to kill someone!

She looked down at her son, who clung to her leg, and barked, “Look at what you’ve done, frightening my child like this. You owe us money!”
Encouraged, Adam let go of his mother and pointed at Dominic. “He’s the murderer! Stab him with the knife!”
Dominic set the knife on the coffee table and gave Adam a faint smile.
The boy froze, then scowled. “What are you smiling at? Hurry up! Or I’ll have my dad beat you!”
He had seen Dominic restrain Caleb and assumed Dominic was on their side. In Adam’s mind, everyone existed to obey him.
Dominic’s smile stayed in place, but his eyes turned icy. In the next instant, he kicked the boy squarely in the face.
Adam screamed and flew backward, landing more than three feet away.
“Adam!” his parents cried out and rushed to him.
The boy rolled across the floor twice before he struggled upright, blood pouring from his nose. When he looked at Dominic again, his small eyes brimmed with fear and hatred.
“What do you think you’re doing?” the father shouted.
He glared at Dominic and howled, “You think you’re above the law? I’m calling the police and having you arrested!”
Dominic stood just under six feet tall. His build was not especially imposing, but his expression remained calm and his posture steady.
That alone made Adam’s father hesitate. Dominic still held the knife.
Dominic smirked, “Go ahead. Call them.”
“I…” Adam’s father fell silent. Of course he did not dare. They had come to extort money. It the police got involved, everything would come to light, and public humiliation would follow.
Dominic spoke calmly. “Go home and cherish the little time you have lett.”
A chill crept up Adam’s mother’s spine. She demanded sharply, “What do you mean by that?”
“Nothing.” Dominic pointed at Adam and smiled. “Divine retribution does not go easy just because he’s a child. You animals do not deserve forgiveness.”
His words made Adam’s father shudder. He clenched his teeth. “Enough with this nonsense. What are you really trying to say?”
