Ezra paused. He had planned to take Dominic back to the station, but with the child present, he said instead, “We’ll need to borrow some of your time.”

Dominic nodded. “Let’s talk in my room.”

He stood and headed toward the bedroom.

Before he could go far, Isabella stopped Ezra and said firmly, “Officer, I don’t want my husband harmed in any way.”

Ezra frowned. “Ms. Sinclair, we’re handling this according to regulations. Please don’t jump to conclusions.”

Isabella replied coldly, “So you know who I am. That makes things easier.”

Before she could continue, Dominic interrupted with clear irritation, “Isabella, what does this have to do with you? Go watch the kitchen. There’s french toast in the pan. Once it’s done, wait two minutes, then turn off the heat.”

Isabella turned back and answered obediently. She shot Ezra a warning glare, then twisted her hips and walked into the kitchen.

Inside the master bedroom, only Dominic and Ezra remained. The other two officers stood guard outside the door.

Dominic offered a cigarette with a smile. “Want one?”

Ezra accepted it and sighed. “Not bad.”

Dominic smiled. “You came all this way today. What is this really about?”

Ezra nodded, his expression turning serious. “Where were you from midnight to three this morning?”

He fixed his gaze on Dominic’s eyes.
