Upon hearing this, Katherine’s expression darkened. She said unhappily, “Dominic, what do you mean? This is your company. I’m helping you, and you want to pay me for it? How… How would Lily see me?”

Dominic’s heart skipped a beat. He spoke quickly. “That’s not what I meant. I just don’t want you to end up at a loss.”

Katherine’s eyes turned slightly red. She bit her lip and said, “We’ve known each other for almost eight years. Back then, I didn’t think much of you. Now you have your own career, and I’m more than happy to help. Yet you say something like that.”

Seeing his former sister–in–law’s reddened eyes, Dominic felt flustered. “It’s my fault, Katherine. I shouldn’t have said that. I’m sorry.”

Katherine saw how awkward he looked and felt both amused and warmed. She said, “You really are too serious sometimes.”

Dominic replied instinctively, “Well, sometimes, I’m not serious either.”

Katherine flushed slightly and lowered her head, avoiding his gaze.

Dominic watched her shy expression and found her incredibly beautiful. His heartbeat quickened.

He cleared his throat. “No plans. Things are the same as before. I won’t consider remarriage until Lily goes to university.”

Over the past eight years, Katherine’s relationship with Dominic had not been especially close. Still, among her male friends, he was the one she felt closest to. She did have a few friends online, but those were only internet acquaintances.

Without realizing it, she had grown a little closer to Dominic. Last time, when his hand was cut, she had instinctively helped bandage it. She had not thought anything of it at the time.

Hearing his words, Katherine snorted. “I think you’re just fooling yourself. Autumn and Jessica are both interested in you. You might hold out for a day or two, but over time… can you really resist?”

He smiled awkwardly. “Forget Jessica. Autumn isn’t chasing me. We’re just friends.”

Dominic said nothing. He was perceptive enough to see that Jessica’s feelings showed plainly on her face.

Autumn, too, did not treat him like an ordinary friend. If not for that irritating car incident last time, some things might already have happened.
