“Yeah, I’ve got something I need to do,” Dominic said. “Turn around for a moment. I need to change.”

“Oh.” Jewel turned her head without thinking.

Dominic removed the hospital gown. He wore nothing underneath, and thick bandages wrapped much of his body.

Suddenly, Jewel turned back. Her eyes shone with bright curiosity.

Dominic jumped and covered himself at once. “Damn it! What are you doing?”

Jewel’s pupils widened as if she had seen something horrifying. Shock flashed across her face, and she blurted out, “Is that real?

Jewel had been shy and tense, but the moment she heard that, she burst out laughing.

Dominic said coldly, “Hurry up and turn around!”

Jewel rolled her eyes and snorted in displeasure. “This is called evening the score. Who told you to bully me last time?”

Dominic felt awkward and said, “Hey, don’t use that tone. You’re acting like a little girl.”

Jewel froze. Then she shot him a fierce glare. Her eyes reddened as she snapped, “Right. I’m old, okay?”

She spun around sharply. The movement shook the hospital bed, which creaked loudly in protest.

As she faced the wall, tears gathered at the corners of her eyes.

The sudden shift left Dominic completely thrown off. He dressed in a hurry and walked over. “Hey, what’s wrong?”

He honestly could not understand it. Everything had been fine. Why had she gotten angry all of a sudden?

She was already 35. Did her defenses really have to be this fragile?

Jewel did not turn around. She reached out and shoved him, her voice edged with a sob. “If you’ve got something to do, then just

go!”

Dominic was even more stunned. ‘No way… She’s crying over this?‘

He could not make sense of it. He shook his head and said, “Then I’ll head out first. Get some good rest.”

After that, the room fell silent.

After a long while, Jewel finally lifted her head and looked around. The ward was completely empty.

That made her curse under her breath, “Bastard.”

She had thought Dominic would at least try to coax her a little. Instead, he had actually left.

She muttered angrily, “Just you wait. If you look at me once, I’ll look at you twice. No, I’ll look at you ten times.”

Dominic left the hospital, still unable to figure Jewel out. She had gotten angry for no reason at all. If it had been Autumn or that little psycho, he probably would have coaxed them a bit. Jewel did not count.

‘When older women get angry, what does that have to do with me?‘ With that thought, Dominic felt completely at ease.

Once outside, he called Ezra.

Dominic hummed in response. “I’m out already. Are you at the station? I’ll come find you.”

“You left the hospital?” Ezra asked in surprise. “My colleagues were about to head over to question you.”

“Then they probably won’t run into me,” Dominic said with a smile. “Is the case giving you a headache?”

“A bit,” Ezra replied with a weary laugh. “We basically didn’t sleep all night. It’s good you’re coming. I’ve got a few things I want to ask you anyway,”

“Alright.” Dominic hung up and then called Andy.

Andy answered almost immediately. “Mr. Fleming ”

“Andy, got time? Come pick me up at the hospital.”

“Yes, sir. I’ll be there right away.”

Not long after, Andy arrived in the company car.

“Go to the Skyline City Police Bureau,” Dominic said.

Andy paused and did not start the car. He turned to look at him. “Mr. Fleming, what are we going to the police station for?”

Dominic replied, “To take care of something.”
