She Chose Him Now She Wants Me Back novel Chapter 340

Chapter 340

Andy asked no further questions and started the car in silence.

More than 20 minutes later, they arrived at the Skyline City Police Bureau.

Dominic called Ezra again. I’m at the entrance. Come out.

Ezra paused. You’re not coming in?

Dominic smiled. I’ve got something to take care of. It’s easier to talk outside.

All right. Give me five minutes,Ezra said and hung up.

Not long after, he stepped outside.

Dominic waved him over. Get in.

Ezra climbed into the car, confusion clear on his face. Dominic, you’re being awfully secretive. What’s going on?

Dominic offered no explanation. He turned to Andy. Drive.

Andy hesitated. Where to?

Dominic thought for a moment. The Skyline City Second Bridge. The view’s good. We can walk along the river.

Andy gave a quiet hum and started the car.

Ezra spoke again. Dominic, yesterday at the company, was anyone else there besides you and Jewel?

I went to the lounge to rest around three in the afternoon. I don’t know when the fire started,Dominic replied with a helpless

shrug.

Ezra frowned. That makes thingscomplicated.

Dominic smiled faintly. No useful footage from the surveillance cameras?

Ezra shook his head. No. We spent the entire night questioning people. One janitor claimed he saw a man in a baseball cap and mask coming down the stairs.

We traced that route through the cameras and found one key camera with its wires cut. On top of that, the fire destroyed the scene. There was nothing valuable left to examine.

Dominic nodded. That does make it harder.

Exactly.Ezra let out a quiet sigh, his brow creased. An order had already come down from above, with a strict deadline. A special task force had been assembled, led by the deputy director, and Ezra had been named deputy leader. Failure to close the

case meant consequences.

Before long, the car stopped beneath the Skyline City Second Bridge.

Dominic got out first. Don’t overthink it. Let’s get some air. A change of scenery might help.

Ezra forced a smile. If only it were that simple.

He did not refuse and followed Dominic out of the car.

Dominic added, Andy, come with us. Take a walk.

Andy looked surprised but stepped out as well.

The three men walked along the riverbank. From a distance, the scene looked faintly unusual.

Ezra’s expression changed. He sensed something off, but he stayed silent.

Dominic broke the quiet. Andy, where are you from?

Andy kept his head lowered and spoke laconically. North River.

That’s a good place,Dominic said. Why move to Skyline City?

My family was poor. I studied here. After I graduated, I didn’t want to go back, so I stayed.

Dominic nodded. I read your resume. You have a diploma?

Yes.

Dominic laughed softly. A college diploma, yet you still landed a position as my assistant. HR spoke very highly of you. They kept praising you. You must have some real ability.

Sweat beaded on Andy’s forehead. He forced a smile. I was justlucky.

Dominic slowed his pace. Don’t sell yourself short. You were hired despite your education level and recommended directly to me. And more importantly, you seemed to know exactly what kind of assistant I needed. Quiet, steady, and hardworking

Dominic stopped and turned to face him. His voice dropped. That doesn’t quite match what HR described.

During the interview, Andy had answered every question smoothly and showed exceptional emotional intelligence. That performance was the reason he had been recommended to Dominic.

At the time, Dominic had noticed it but given it little thought. They had barely interacted, after all.

Now, in hindsight, it felt deliberate. Andy seemed to have carefully shaped his image.

Emotional intelligence had helped him pass the interview, but Dominic preferred a quiet assistant. Andy had adjusted his persona to fit that preference and secure Dominic’s approval.
