Chapter 406
More than an hour later, the room finally settled into silence.
It took Katherine a long while to recover before she slowly sat up.
She pulled a pillow into her arms, but it was not enough to conceal her perfect figure. Her alluring skin showed like an accidental glimpse of spring, revealed unintentionally, yet there was no one there to admire it.
At that moment, the only man in the room had already closed his eyes and fallen fast asleep.
Katherine looked at him for a long time, then her gaze drifted to the bedsheet.
Several bright red blossoms stained the fabric. She stared at them blankly, complex emotions rising in her eyes. She had never expected her first time to end like this.
Grievance, confusion, and panic flickered across her face, a tangled mix of feelings. Still, there was no regret. She had chosen
this man of her own free will.
‘But…‘ The thought of her sister surfaced, and her expression stiffened.
After a long pause, she slowly curled up at the head of the bed. She hugged her knees and rested her chin against them, a trace of sadress appearing on her face.
‘Why did he have to be my sister’s ex–husband? Why did he have to be Lilith’s father?‘
Before Isabella truly let go, she could only bury these feelings deep in her heart. This matter could never be spoken aloud.
As the thoughts piled up, a faint shimmer appeared in her clear eyes.
She pressed her lips together and prepared to get up.
The moment she shifted slightly, a sharp pain forced a gasp from her throat, and tears finally spilled over.
Katherine could no longer hold herself back. She reached out and smacked Dominic hard several times. Her voice trembled with sobs, heavy with grievance. “You jerk. Total jerk. Ugh…”
Dominic seemed to sense movement and turned over, the blanket sliding aside.
Katherine’s eyes widened in shock.
The next instant, her face flushed bright red. She hurriedly lowered her head, her mind filled with disbelief at how she had even managed to do all that earlier.
Dominic slowly opened his eyes, confusion clouding his face.
The room lay quiet. A familiar fragrance lingered at his nose, yet when he looked around, no one else was there.
He sat up, picked his pants off the floor, took out a pack of cigarettes, and lit one. Only then did a thoughtful expression appear.
Something must have happened earlier.
His head throbbed, and his memory remained blank.
Suddenly, he noticed faint red marks on the white bedsheet. His heart jolted.
‘Who left those behind? It could not have been Lydia…‘ In the haze of his memory, a captivating figure surfaced That flawless face made his heart tremble. ‘Could it have been her?‘
Dominic stood there for a long time, lost in thought, before he dressed and pulled open the curtains.

Outside, the night was pitch black.
He stared into the darkness, unable to calm his emotions.
The doorbell rang sharply.
Dominic turned toward the sound.
The door was shoved open, and several uniformed police officers rushed in with stern shouts. “Don’t move!”
Two male officers immediately seized his arms from either side.
Dominic’s pupils shrank. With his current physique, he could have broken free easily. He did not resist, though. He watched as the officers fastened handcuffs around his wrists.
At that moment, Lydia walked in slowly, her eyes red and swollen.
An officer pointed at Dominic and asked sharply, “Is it him?”
Lydia bit her lip. Tears streamed down her face as she nodded through her sobs. “Yes. It’s him.”
The lead officer waved his hand without hesitation. “Take him away.”
Dominic glanced at Lydia and spoke calmly. “May I ask what I’ve done?”
The lead officer shot him a cold glare. “What you did. Don’t tell me you don’t know.”
