Lydia hesitated for two seconds in the car, then pulled a small bottle from her bag and tipped its contents into Dominic’s bottled
water.
A moment later, he returned to the car and handed her some medicine. “Just take one.”
Lydia nodded and reached for Dominic’s water bottle.
He stopped her at once. “Hey, that’s mine. Yours is over there.”
Lydia frowned, irritation flashing across her face. “Ugh. I can’t drink yours?”
Dominic laughed, took the bottle back, swallowed a large gulp, then screwed the cap on again.
Lydia’s eyes lit up.
“Take me to Maple Hotel,” she said.
“You’re staying at a hotel?” Dominic asked.
Lydia sighed. “Yeah. The power’s been out at home for days, so I’m crashing there for now.”
Dominic did not press further and steered the car toward Maple Hotel.
As they approached, a strange heat surged through Dominic’s body. Vivid, intrusive images flickered through his mind, quickening his breath and tightening his chest.
At the hotel entrance, Lydia suddenly frowned and let out a pained moan.
Dominic forced down his rising agitation. “What’s wrong?”
Sweat dotted Lydia’s forehead, and her face twisted with discomfort. “I… I feel awful. My stomach hurts. I feel weak.”
“Should I take you to the hospital?” Dominic asked.

The card’s in my bag.”
Minic nodded, retrieved the key card, and took her to the room. He laid her on the bed, and the heat inside him flared again, sharper now, paired with a restless tension he could not shake.
Lydia shifted on the mattress, letting out soft, unfamiliar sounds that set his nerves on edge.
“Dominic,” she said quietly. “Don’t leave, okay?”
He gnashed his teeth. “I’ll just use the bathroom for a moment‘
He hurried inside and turned on the shower, letting icy water soak him through his clothes.
Ten minutes passed. He shut off the water, drenched and shivering, yet the burning sensation refused to fade. His eyes were red,
his breath uneven.
He drew a deep breath and stepped out.
A hot body wrapped around him without warning, freezing him in place.

Lydia pressed him back toward the bed, clinging to him with relentless force.
Dominic fought to restrain her and struggled to keep himself under control, but she moved with surprising speed and began tugging at his clothes.
As she leaned closer, his hand shot out and closed around her throat.
Dominic’s eyes had turned bloodshot. His grip tightened, clawlike, and her face flushed under the pressure.
“Get the fuck out,” he rasped.
He panted, the ruthlessness in his gaze no longer concealed. “Or I’ll kill you.”
Terror flashed through Lydia’s eyes, and she gasped. “Let me… go.”
Dominic released her, and she collapsed into a fit of coughing.
She had not expected him to resist her, not under these circumstances.
Dominic stood there, breathing hard, every muscle rigid as he forced himself to hold back.
Lydia scrambled for her clothes. One look at his expression sent fear crawling up her spine, and she fled the room.
Desire surged through Dominic as he watched her leave, threatening to drown his reason.
Then the half–closed door opened again, and a beautiful figure stepped inside.
Her eyes widened at the sight of Dominic.
After a long pause, she closed the door softly and bit her lip.
Much later, suppressed moans echoed through the room.
“Mmph… I must have owed you my life in a previous one…”
