After Lydia left, Dominic chuckled softly.

Ezra asked, puzzled, “Were you really threatening her?”

“No,” Dominic replied casually.

Ezra could not figure out Dominic’s intent and chose not to press further. Instead, he said, “The trial’s tomorrow. What are you thinking?”

“Nothing in particular,” Dominic said with indifference. “Whatever the verdict should be, that’s what it will be.”

Ezra frowned and sighed softly, then turned and left. He wanted to find evidence that would prove Dominic’s innocence.

The case, however, was not under his jurisdiction. He could not even access the evidence from the hotel room, which made the situation especially troublesome.

Dominic waited in silence.

Before long, someone else arrived.

Jessica’s eyes were red. The moment she saw him, she broke down in tears. “Dominic!”

Dominic spoke quickly. “Hey, don’t cry.”

“I’m so useless. I couldn’t help you at all…” Jessica sobbed. Her uncle had demanded that she cut off all ties, a condition she could not accept

Separated by the glass, Dominic pressed his hand against it and smiled gently. “Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.”

Jessica looked at him through tear–filled eyes. “Really?”

“Of course,” Dominic said with certainty. “Everything’s under control.”

Even as he spoke, an image surfaced in his mind. Several plum blossom–like stains on the bedsheet, completely unexpected.

Jessica took a deep breath, then looked at him. “Dominic, I believe you.”

Dominic smiled. “That’s right. Trust me.”

Jessica nodded, then her expression darkened. “Dominic, I’m sorry.”

Dominic was startled. “Why are you apologizing to me?”

Jessica lowered her head and spoke softly. “I went to see my uncle, but I didn’t expect my dad to tell him not to interfere. It’s because of me…”

Dominic understood at once,

From the first day he came into contact with Jessica, his background had likely already landed on her father’s desk.

From a father’s point of view, disliking him was natural, so choosing not to intervene was understandable.

With that thought, Dominic smiled. “That’s actually better this way. If your uncle really stepped in, I wouldn’t be able to repay the favor.”

He already owed one from the art piece that day.

Jessica’s mood lifted slightly. “Dominic, you really don’t blame me?”

“Of course,” Dominic said. “I believe the court is fair. Something I didn’t do can’t be pinned on me.”
