“Isabella, are you crazy?” Her voice rose sharply, startling Isabella.

Isabella pouted. “Well, you did look pretty happy when you heard he might not be dead. I was just analyzing. It sounded

reasonable.”

“Reasonable my ass,” Katherine snapped. “I was thinking that if he wasn’t dead, you’d have another option. You wouldn’t keep …cough. I mean, you wouldn’t still be stuck because of Dominic. I’m doing this for your own good.”

“For my own good?” Isabella leaned back against the sofa, her tone firm. “No matter what happens, I won’t give up on my

husband.”

Katherine let out a soft snort and said nothing.

“Oh, right. When are you going to find me a brother–in–law?” Isabella asked suddenly.

Katherine frowned. “Where did that come from?”

“Look at you. You’re almost 30 in the blink of an eye. If you don’t get married soon, people will start talking.” Isabella chuckled. “Besides, if you get married, at least you won’t have to hide alone in your room…”

“Shut up,” Katherine sneered. “I just won’t get married. I’ll stay in my room every day and repeat what we just did. What’s it to you?” 1

“Fine. Suit yourself.” Isabella glanced at her watch, stood, and grabbed her bag. “I’m not arguing with you anymore. Don’t forget to keep an eye on the company.”

She headed for the door.

Katherine finally released a breath she had been holding. “Where are you going?”

“Dom’s car is downstairs. I’m going to wait for him nearby.”

With that, Isabella walked out.

Less than five seconds after the door closed, Dominic stepped out of the bedroom.

Katherine’s heart leapt. She hurriedly waved at him.

He froze, then slipped back inside.

Katherine eased the door open and walked onto the balcony to look down. After a short while, she saw Isabella exit the building.

Only then did she relax.

She returned inside, shut the door, and sank onto the sofa with a glass of water.

“There’s no need to be that scared,” Dominic said as he walked out, his tone helpless.

Katherine shot him a look, then turned her face away. “You’re going to get me killed.”

He crossed the room, slid an arm around her waist, and smiled with teasing confidence. “Get you killed? You didn’t look so worried a minute ago.”
