Yara slipped her phone into her bag and gave a quiet nod.

Shame pricked at her thoughts. Dominic blazed like the sun. Only someone flawless, someone like Isabella, belonged at his side.

Isabella studied her for a long moment before offering a gentle smile. “There’s no need to be so reserved. Since my husband has acknowledged you as his sister, you can come to me if you run into trouble. He has a lot on his plate and stays busy.”

Yara lowered her gaze and nodded again. “I… I know.”

Seemingly satisfied, Isabella rose and headed for the door to see what was happening outside.

Before she could step out, Dominic walked in, supporting Oliver at his side.

“You settled it that quickly?” Isabella asked, surprised.

She stepped closer and looked Dominic over. When she noticed the scratch on the back of his hand, she bit her lip. “Honey, you’re hurt. Does it hurt?”

Oliver hung off Dominic’s shoulder, his face bruised and swollen. At her words, he lifted his head in disbelief.

Was that even something a person would say?

The blood on Dominic’s hand was his.

Dominic gave a dismissive wave. “Your brother had a nosebleed. Take him inside and clean him up.”

Only then did Isabella glance at Oliver. She sighed. “Bro, what are you trying to prove?”

She moved to support him as well.

Frustration churned in Oliver’s chest.

Once inside, he shrugged them off, found the first–aid kit, and began treating his own injuries in silence.

Dominic lit a cigarette and let out a low sneer. “Feeling better now?”

Oliver snorted, his voice thick through swollen lips. “I’ll settle this sooner or later.”

The gap between them was not that wide. He was still growing, still improving. Next time he would make Dominic pay.

After finishing up, he rose and headed for the door without a word.

At that moment, the bedroom door swung open. Lilith appeared in bear pajamas and beamed at him. “Uncle Olvier, you’re here!”

Oliver stopped at once. When she ran toward him, warmth surged back into his limbs. He crouched, scooped her into his arms, and smiled. “Why are you awake?”

“I was half asleep, and I heard Daddy talking to you,” she said in her clear little voice.

Emotion tightened his throat. The child gave him a warmth he had not felt in a long time.

Then she noticed his bruises. “Uncle Oliver, what happened to your face?”

Oliver shot Dominic a dark look. “I got bitten by a dog.”

Lilith gasped. “Then ask Daddy for help. He’s super strong.”

Oliver forced a faint smile. “This dog’s pretty strong too.”

Her small face turned solemn. “It’s okay. Daddy specializes in beating dogs.”

He played with Lilith for another ten minutes. When she began to yawn, he carried her back to bed and tucked her in.

After closing the bedroom door, he glanced at Dominic and Isabella, let out a cold snort, and left.

Outside, a deep sadness settled over him. His sister was hopeless. She had not tried to keep him, nor had she walked him out. At least he still had two sisters. If Isabella had chosen her side, Katherine remained.

Inside the house, Dominic turned to Yara. “You’ll stay here tonight. Your brother’s fine. Brian’s with him.”
