At that moment, Dominic’s mood was undeniably complicated. He did not want to admit it, yet he could not deny the truth: he had started to feel like a scumbag.
In simple terms, he enjoyed what he had while coveting what he did not. He felt certain about his feelings for Katherine, but Jessica also held a significant place in his heart.
Despite the thoughts that crossed his mind, Dominic restrained himself. He took a deep breath and forced a smile. “What do you mean by dying for someone? Things like that only matter at the most important moments, like marriage.”
Longing immediately appeared on Jessica’s small face. “If I could walk into the hall of marriage with you, Dominic, I would be the happiest woman in the world.”
Dominic’s heart began to race. “Hey, you’re still young. In a few years, your thoughts might change.”
“No way!” Jessica wrinkled her nose in dissatisfaction. “Whether now or later, I only want to marry you. I
won’t let any other man touch me, not even a little.”
Her earnest words made Dominic find her extraordinarily charming. He wanted to refuse, but the words
stuck in his throat.
“Hey, Dominic,” Jessica said, suspicion creeping into her voice. “You’ve been acting strange lately. It feels like you’re always trying to push me away.”
She studied his face. “Be honest. Is there someone else?”
At last, she had asked.
Dominic, who had never been good at hiding things, stayed silent.
When he still had not answered after a long moment, Jessica’s expression shifted slightly. She grabbed Dominic’s arm and forced a smile. “Dominic, if you have something to tell me, just say it, okay? Don’t lie to me, alright?”
Dominic drew in a deep breath before he spoke in a low voice. “I… I’m dating Katherine.”
The words caught Jessica completely off guard. Her eyes widened, and her hands began to shake uncontrollably. She released Dominic’s arm as her whole body stiffened.
