Chapter 559
The two newlyweds signed their full names on the marriage certificate.
After a brief pause, Dominic picked up the pen again and added another line:[Witness: Dominic Fleming]
At that exact moment, a deafening clap of thunder split the sky. Everyone instinctively turned toward the window, but outside, the sky remained perfectly clear. The thunder had come out of nowhere.
Dominic frowned, startled. His gaze drifted back to the words he had just written.
‘Could it be…‘ He did not dwell on the thought.
Instead, he smiled and announced, “Today, Elias Walker and Sophia Quinn are officially husband and wife. The ceremony is complete. Groom, please carry your bride to the bridal room.”
Elias looked at Dominic with gratitude, then gently lifted Sophia into his arms and carried her into the bedroom.
Dominic quietly left the apartment.
Outside, he looked up at the sky, his thoughts still lingering on the thunder. In ancient myths, the universe sometimes responded when something was proclaimed to it, but that was not something an ordinary person could do.
‘Could it be… after dying once, I have somehow become a deity?‘ The thought startled him. He quickly shook his head. ‘What am I even thinking? That is ridiculous…‘
He remained outside for a long time. Only when he heard movement behind him did Dominic turn around.
Elias stepped out. His eyes were dim as he said softly, “Mr. Fleming… Sophia is gone.”
Dominic went back inside and looked around the room. As expected, Sophia was nowhere to be seen. He sighed. “My condolences.”
Elias forced a bitter smile.
“At least I was able to marry her. That means I have fewer regrets.”
Dominic nodded. “You need to pull yourself together. Sophia would not want to see you waste your life in despair.”
“I know.” Elias‘ gaze steadied. “Sophia told me many things just now. I will do my best. I will not disappoint her.”
Dominic smiled faintly. “That is good.”
Elias extended his hand. In his palm lay a simple plastic ring.
Dominic took it, patted his shoulder, and said, “Alright. I should get going.”
Suddenly, Elias dropped to his knees. “Mr. Fleming, thank you! Thank you for letting me see Sophia again… Thank you!”
His voice carried deep sincerity.
Dominic nodded, helped him to his feet, then seemed to remember something. “Keep the marriage certificate safe. Do not lose it.”
Elias‘ pupils trembled. “Mr. Fleming… does that mean… I might see Sophia again?”
Dominic simply smiled. “Anything is possible. Just live well.”
With that, he left.
In the days that followed, the marriage certificate became Elias‘ most treasured possession.
Life, however, was full of unexpected turns. Many years later, a thief broke into his house and stole it.
