Chapter 564
At that point, Isabella’s eyes were darkly bruised, and clear handprints marked her cheeks, already swelling red. She looked
utterly miserable.
Dominic frowned. He stepped out, asked the maid for ice, then returned and handed it to her. “Put this on your face. Go to sleep
early tonight.”
Isabella stood motionless, staring blankly. She did not even reach out to take the ice.
“I’m talking to you,” Dominic said. “Didn’t you hear me?”
Isabella’s body trembled slightly as she came back to herself. She looked at him, her voice hollow. “Honey… am I… someone
who deserves to die?”
Her expression was vacant, her state of mind visibly unstable.
Dominic’s heart skipped a beat. It felt as if the situation he had feared was unfolding before him.
“It’s all in the past,” he said in a low voice. “Don’t bring those things up anymore.”
Isabella forced a smile that looked worse than crying. “Those ‘old things‘ made me lose you. How could they possibly be in the past?”
A deathly stillness settled in her eyes. Her husband had fallen for someone else, and that person was her own sister. Her heart
had already turned to ashes. Worst of all, she knew it was entirely her fault.
Dominic’s eyes flickered. Things were still developing in the direction he had feared from the start.
After he and Katherine had slept together, he had worried Isabella would not be able to accept it. That was why he had never made it public.
But now she had found out anyway. Everything had fallen into chaos.
Isabella looked at him and asked calmly, “Honey… do you hate me?”
Dominic did not answer.
“I understand now,” she said.
The smile on her face was completely shattered, tears shimmering in her eyes. “All this time, I could never truly face what happened. I kept comforting myself, thinking I hadn’t really done anything so unforgivable… something you couldn’t forgive.
“But today I can’t lie to myself anymore. The truth is… because of me, you already died once. And I still foolishly hoped you would forgive me… how ridiculous…”
Her voice choked with emotion. “In the future… take good care of Lily…”
After she spoke, she seemed to lose her soul as she turned and walked slowly toward the door.
Dominic’s heart began to pound. He reached out at once and grabbed her arm. “Where are you going?”
Isabella shook her head without answering.
His heart sank. Isabella had two tendencies. She might act rashly or lose her mind completely.
After a brief pause, Dominic pulled her onto the bed. “Don’t move.”
Isabella stared at him blankly.
Dominic said nothing more. He picked up the ice and gently pressed it against the injuries on her face.

As she watched the careful, gentle look on his face, her eyes filled with a dazed longing
More than twenty minutes later, Dominic finally asked, “Does it still hurt?”
Isabella shook her head softly. “It doesn’t anymore.”
Dominic nodded. “Alright. Go sleep with Lily.”
By then, some light had returned to Isabella’s eyes.
She rose obediently and left the room.
Dominic let out a long breath and muttered, “Damn it… I actually had to use my charm on Isabella.”
A moment earlier, he had feared she might do something extreme if she could not handle the situation. He had had no choice but to act that way.
But on second thought, if something really happened to her, he would not be able to stand by and watch.
It was only because Katherine had been the one to hit her that he had not interfered. If it had been anyone else, he would never
have allowed it.
“She’s Lily’s mother, after all,” Dominic told himself.
Only then did his thoughts settle slightly. But when he remembered the way Katherine had left earlier, a headache began to form again.
By then, it was close to midnight.
