Chapter 565
That night, Dominic crept quietly to Katherine’s room and knocked lightly on the door.
“Who’s there?” Katherine asked, her tone calm but cautious.
“It’s me,” Dominic replied softly.
The house was dark and silent, with all the lights off.
Katherine did not open the door. “Do you have something to say? You can speak outside.”
Dominic hesitated.
“No… Yes, I mean… could you let me in?” His voice betrayed his nerves. No matter who he spoke to, this was not an easy situation to explain.
Katherine’s calm voice came again, edged with faint humor. “If you have something to say, say it outside. I have no intention of opening the door.”
Dominic tried again. “I just want to talk. Please, let me in.”
A cold, sharp laugh came from inside. “Go away. I don’t want to talk to you.”
Dominic steeled himself. “I won’t leave if you don’t open the door.”
“Oh really? I’ll count to three. If you’re still here, I’ll scream.”
“One…”
“Two…”
Sweat beaded on Dominic’s forehead. Just as Katherine was about to shout “three,” he blurted, “Okay, okay, I’ll leave!”
He returned empty–handed. His attempt to get closer to her, his “target,” had failed once again.
Dejected, he flopped onto the bed, drained and listless.
He scrolled through his phone out of boredom. Many unread messages filled the screen, but he ignored them all. His gaze settled on Katherine’s profile picture, and he stared at it for a long moment.
Gradually, his eyes hardened. ‘If Isabella can be shameless, why can’t I? Katherine is mine. If once doesn’t work, I’ll try a hundred times. If a hundred times don’t work, I’ll try ten thousand. One of these times, I’ll succeed.‘
With that thought, Dominic’s confidence surged again.
The next day, as soon as Dominic opened the door, Isabella greeted him with a bright smile. “Honey! I was just about to knock when you came out!”
Her spirits had fully recovered, and she beamed. The red marks on her cheeks stood out more clearly now, which gave her an almost comically earnest look.
Dominic frowned. “Are you really fine? Why are you following me around? Where’s Lily?”
“Lily is out playing with Grandma. Honey, I brought you breakfast!” Isabella said, holding out a bowl with both hands and giving it a small, eager shake.
Dominic glanced at it. “I’m not in the mood for cereal today. I’m going downstairs for bread.”
He headed downstairs. As he passed Katherine’s room, he glanced inside. The bed was neatly made. She had clearly already left

“Had I known, I would have brought bread instead,” Isabella mumbled apologetically as she followed close behind.
Dominic smirked to himself. ‘You would bring bread? I actually wanted cereal today,‘
In the dining room, Dominic began eating breakfast while Isabella hovered nearby.
“Are you going to follow me everywhere? Isn’t that annoying?” he snapped.
“Not at all. I’m not annoying,” she replied sweetly.
Dominic’s cheek twitched. He could not deal with her today. “Where’s your sister?”
Isabella pouted. “How should I know?”
He did not press further.
After he finished his food and prepared to leave, Isabella suddenly added, “She’s probably at a class reunion.”
