“JewelMed! That’s my aunt’s company. It’s not big–mostly sales, mainly distributing the Garcia Group’s products. What do you think?”

Dominic’s eyes brightened. “Sales? Perfect.”

A job like that would let him build experience fast.

Autumn smiled. “Then it’s settled. When do you want to start?”

“Next Monday. Tomorrow’s the weekend, and I promised my daughter I’d take her to visit her grandfather.”

“Alright.”

Just then, the plump shop owner arrived with two steaming blue cheese pizzas. The smell was overwhelming.

Dominic managed to stomach it and began eating eagerly. Autumn ate more slowly, savoring each bite.

As they ate, Dominic noticed a young man sitting quietly in the corner. He hadn’t ordered anything, just stared blankly at the owner. When he caught Dominic watching, the young man turned and met his gaze.

A moment later, the young man stiffened. Looking around, he realized no one else was near, yet Dominic’s eyes were still locked on him. His voice trembled. “You… can see me?”

“Hey, Dominic, what are you looking at?” Autumn asked, puzzled.

Dominic looked away and smiled. “Nothing. Just that calendar over there. It looks interesting.”

“Ah.” Autumn nodded, taking another bite.

After finishing their pizza, Dominic paid the bill. As they left, the young man followed them outside, staring after the car as it disappeared down the street.

In the car, Dominic asked, “Do you come here often?”

“Not really, just sometimes. Why?”

“That shop–there’s only one owner, right?”

“You mean the plump woman?” Autumn sighed. “Yeah. I heard she had it rough. Her husband left her and their young son years ago. She stayed single and raised the boy on her own. But she spoiled him too much, and he turned rebellious. Three years ago, he ran away and never came back. People say her hair turned white from the stress.”

Dominic nodded quietly. It made sense now–the young man must have been her son. His thoughts grew heavy. He reached for a cigarette.

A flame flickered in front of him.

Autumn held up a lighter, smiling playfully, “I’ll light it for you. You focus on driving.”

“Thanks. Where to?”

“Home.”

“Alright.”

Dominic drove her back to her place.
