Melanie didn't bother arguing. She just offered a dismissive shrug and a faint smile.
That casual indifference absolutely infuriated Aria.
It made her feel entirely invisible, entirely irrelevant to her sister.
"Go, Preston! You can do it!"
Aria screamed at the top of her lungs, desperately putting on a show of unwavering support.
Then she shot Melanie a venomous glare.
"If he loses, it's completely your fault."
Unfazed by the absurd accusation, Melanie continued to act like Aria didn't even exist.
It was clear that the woman was already convinced Preston was doomed.
And was preemptively blaming it on Melanie.
In reality, the score was neck and neck.
Shawn had secured an early lead by relying on raw, explosive speed right from the jump.
But it was blatantly obvious that Preston was holding back.
And even while conserving his energy, he kept the point gap virtually nonexistent.
Which meant the second Preston finally unleashed his full power, Shawn wouldn't stand a chance.
Moreover, Melanie noticed that Shawn was sweating profusely.
Not just a normal workout sweat. He was drenched, beads of perspiration pouring down his face.
Even with his aggressive early sprint, he shouldn't have been burning out this quickly.
"That much sweat..."
Melanie tapped her chin, a subtle frown forming on her forehead.
It wasn't normal.
And he was gasping for air far too heavily.
Even for a twenty-one-point match, this kind of physical breakdown made no sense.
Especially considering that Preston had just played an entire game, while Shawn had been sitting on the bench the whole time.
Just as Melanie predicted, it didn't take long for Preston to eclipse Shawn on the scoreboard.
And he didn't just take the lead—he began stretching the gap with terrifying efficiency.
Aria completely lost her mind with excitement.
"Did you see that?! Did you see that?!"
She shrieked smugly in Melanie's direction.
