"Don't be afraid, Quinn. I'm right here..."
That voice had been a part of her life once before.
But her memories were hazy, and she couldn't immediately place it.
Soothed by the gentle murmur, Quinn's paralyzing terror finally began to recede.
She instinctively grasped his hand, as if it was her only anchor against the thugs dragging her down.
The doctor knocked lightly before entering. "The patient's vitals are stabilizing. As her husband, you should keep talking to her. Hearing a comforting voice will help her recover from the shock faster."
Ethan's eyes flickered, the tips of his ears turning a faint red.
He wasn't her husband, but before he could correct the doctor, the medical staff had already slipped out.
...
Back at the Landinburg Hotel, Hunter aggressively rang the doorbell to Quinn's suite. Silence. The front desk confirmed she had never returned.
"Dammit!"
Hunter's pupils constricted in panic, and he swayed on his feet. If she hadn't come back, something terrible must have happened.
He whipped out his phone and immediately redialed Miles.
Assuming Hunter had tracked her down, Miles answered with a mocking sneer.
"I told you she was at the hotel. Put her on the line."
Hunter swallowed hard, his voice stammering. "Mr. York, she's... she's not here. She never made it back."
A sudden, sharp tension seized Miles's chest. His expression froze, and his brow furrowed.
"What do you mean? Is she still throwing a fit and refusing to come back?"
"Mr. York, we need to call the cops. I'm terrified she's in danger."
Miles suddenly remembered the woman named Eleanor, the one with the masculine voice. He figured she might have picked Quinn up.
"Find the contact info for that Eleanor woman she's always talking to. She probably knows where she is."
Hanging up, Miles rubbed his temples in frustration. This woman never failed to be a constant headache.
