"Send more men. You have to find her."
"Yes, Boss. I'm deploying everyone we have."
Just as he hung up, his phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID.
The agitation in his chest instantly cooled, and his voice involuntarily softened.
"Luna?"
Luna's sweet but panicked voice came through the speaker. "Weird Uncle, I can't reach Mommy! You were with her last time. Can you give her the phone, please?"
Hearing the raw anxiety in the little girl's voice, Miles hurried to comfort her.
"Luna, your... your mom can't come to the phone right now. I'll have her call you back as soon as she's free."
At the words 'can't come to the phone,' both Luna and Caleb turned pale. "Did something bad happen to her? Why can't she talk?"
It had been two days since they'd heard from her. Usually, she called multiple times a day. Something had to be wrong.
"Be a good girl, Luna. She's fine. I'm here, and I promise I won't let anything happen to her. Do you trust me?"
Luna looked over at her brother. Caleb reasoned that since their mother was overseas and unreachable, this 'Weird Uncle' was their only lifeline.
Caleb shook his head and made a hand gesture. Understanding his cue, Luna's nose tingled, and she sounded as though she was on the verge of tears.
Caleb gently rubbed his sister's back, his own eyes clouded with deep worry.
"You have to keep your promise, Weird Uncle. I trust you. You have to take good care of Mommy."
Miles's heart clenched tight. He hated hearing the little girl sound so distressed. "Luna, I promise. You have my word."
"Okay. Thank you, Weird Uncle."
Hanging up, Miles found he couldn't sit around waiting anymore. He needed to meet up with Hunter and look for Quinn himself.
But right on cue, Jade called out to him. "Miles... my leg hurts..."
...
Ethan brought the takeout boxes into Quinn's room. "You must be starving. I brought some food."
